Side for the 2nd test then?

I think they played their best 11 in their minds at Edgbaston, avoiding the mistake of having one eye on the next test.

Yeah seems to be the case, I'd debate whether that is our best attack, especially on those pitches. But you are right, there has been a presumption that Wood will play at Lords, but seemingly not, for the same reason. TBF if Jimmy and Robinson had not been coming back off injuries might be right.

Listening to Butcher on the Wisden podcast and he makes a great point on Ali's finger, says it might heal but it wont have the time to harden and will just tear open again pretty sharpish.
Too much of a risk picking Ali for this test imo

Totally agree on Ali if the play the same 11 and it does not move can’t see how we win.

Anderson and Robinson offered little threat on that featherbed. Makes ot twice as bad we should be 1-0 lose this and it’s pretty much done.

Not inspired by our woeful record at Lords either.

I am not really one for looking at previous records at certain grounds in England, don’t see relevance of results at certain grounds in the past that had 22 different players.

Tongue replaces Ali

Is wood injured? Really don’t understand that section

Suspicion his elbow isn’t right.

Big blow

Gone for that extra pace. Albeit he’s not that quick tongue

I like a spinner in there, they must not think Mo is right.
Think they are worried about stokes being able to bowl, so mo consisted too big of a risk

You can’t play Woakes if already got those other 3 seamers

Kind of makes sense

Gutted for Woody if so has no luck.

Really missing him Jof and Stone here - Carse would probably have been in line too

Yeah defs, agree on all 3. It’s not ideal but if they can’t risk Mo I’m glad they’ve at least tried to get some extra pace in there.

Aussies should go after Root now, they should try anyway

We really need some runs from stokes then as I can’t imagine him bowling in the game now

Brought Ali out of retirement to drop him after 1 game .

Can kinda see why they've done it, but the temperature is due to be mid 20's albeit with some rain forecast. If it stays mainly dry, our lack of frontline spinner may be an issue.

He’s not dropped really, he will be back 3rd test, he’s injured.

I’d have had Dawson in all 5 games personally.

Stokes not bowling is a huge issue though, and you can see why they need extra seamer. We literally didn’t have enough bowlers in the first test

He probably isn't fit but then they rolled out the vice-captain yesterday who more or less said he was fit.

Either way, agree with you on Stokes, it's putting pressure on the bowlers as we are effectively a 4 man attack now. I'd still always prefer a front line spinner however, even despite Lords traditionally being seamer friendly, and especially with recent injuries to Anderson/Robinson
