It was largely thanks to Broad that we were even in with a chance of winning. Anderson was incredibly disappointing by his standards. Robinson for all his talk of being a “gym bunny” was struggling to hit 80mph at times which was embarrassing. It was like watching the Robinson from the last Ashes tour. His figures for this Test burnished by knocking over a few tail-enders.
I’m not sure what will happen with Mo for the rest of the series.
Next Test one of Robinson or Anderson should miss out and Wood needs to come in.
I’m not sure of the policy of having these flat pitches. I can see how they don’t want green seamers because it benefits their attack as much as ours and it makes scoring runs quickly much more difficult which is what we are about. However pitches with a little bit more in them or it’s giving the likes of Jimmy and Robinson nothing to work with.
I like line one. Everyone wants them to be positive/aggressive but when they get out it’s reckless.- Be positive/aggressive, not reckless.
- Pick a proper WK.
- We need more variety on flat wickets. Wood should replace Robinson or Anderson next test.
- Not sure bringing back Mo is the answer.
I think that sums things up nicely to be honest.- Be positive/aggressive, not reckless.

I agree with the rest although Bairstow for me prior to his injury was a test match quality wicketkeeper. I’ve never seen him put in a performance remotely like that and wonder if his movement is hampered by his injury. If it is he needs to be replaced.
Particularly when we don’t have a genuinely top quality attacking frontline spinner available. When fit, Leach is a competent test bowler but would find the going tough on those pitches. Ali is so out of practice and obviously his finger has demonstrated that. If we had Archer, Wood and Stone all fit and firing missiles then the flatties would be a very clever tactic.
Mind we’ll get what we’re given at Lords. They don’t take any instruction from the England set up on what to prepare
Duckett is just doing what has got him massive runs so far he isn’t doing anything differently having only left 8 balls since his return to the side. I agree tho if the Aussies know he’s going to play at it they will continue to put it out there. The difference between positive and reckless is continuing with what is working well for players and not risking that success for something altogether different.
Root and Bairstow’s dismissals where they ran down the track and heaved were reckless and unnecessary. They’d played beautifully from the crease and used their feet in a more classical style which was reaping huge rewards with them totally set at the crease. Hammering home their advantage at that stage and continuing to play positively would have served them and England well. Duckett wafting his bat without real intent is also reckless and not positive.
That type of thing for me
