Michael Sheen - only welsh actors should play welsh characters

He auditioned in character and stayed in character.

I wasn’t saying he was. I was saying people get het up when it’s their regional accent that is being done badly, as witnessed on this thread.
So the director hadn’t heard of Laurie before? Were they out for the series wrap and Laurie says “fancy another slurp there like marra“ and the director fainted?

Wheres it gonna stop man we’ve had only gay characters can be played by gay actors

Same with disabled and now a bloke thats probably played 2/3 Welsh characters in 30 years of acting and has played hundreds of characters that werent Welsh has come out and said he finds it ‘ very hard to accept Welsh characters being played by actors that werent from Wales !

Is it ‘ national elitism ‘ or just people being hypocritical knobheads ?!?!

The latter for me 100%
It’s racism

So really he's just stating from a personal POV that he struggles to take non-Welsh actors playing Welsh parts seriously. I often feel the same watching non-NE actors playing NE characters.

The wider argument about parts being played by actors with characteristics they don't actually have is a great microcosm of wider society and the issue of representation. There are perfectly valid discussions to be had about why say, white actors blacking up is probably not a good idea, or getting actors from marginalised groups e.g. disabled, LGBT etc into the spotlight but then predictably, well meaning gonks and/or blue haired nutters will come out with some shite about how no actors should never go out of their lanes at all, completely ignoring the entire premise of what acting is supposed to be.

On the plus side it's gave the usuals the opportunity to pompously point out, "he didn't say that".

If pointing out when people are misunderstanding something is now considered pompous, that's a good indicator of why we're in the state we're in.

It's usually with laughing smilies and comments about being being angry, thick or whatever. Rarely to just point out a misunderstanding, which would be fine. I'm amazed you think that isn't being pompous
