Leach

If Bess gets picked they may as well hand the ashes to the ozzies on Friday. The worst spin bowler I’ve ever seen her a decent run of games for England.

If considered fit will Wood be starting?
He’ll be in the 11 for the first test I reckon.

Bess has a statistical better record than leach and is way ahead as a batsman

you knew that though , I assume ?

So you think Bess is a better bowler then? I also never said I rated leach much either. Bess’s average is better by 1 playing a lot less games against terrible opposition. Watch his wickets back and Half of them are half trackers or full tosses.

I didn’t say that at all

i said he has a statistical better average than leach.

what I did say was that he is a considerable better batsman

I also said you knew that

Rehan averaging 31 in first class cricket could prove to be an important bonus. We could have ridiculous batting depth going into the series.

Correct he is a considerable better batsman than leach but What’s the batting got to do with the original point of Bess being the worst spin bowler I’ve seen given a run of games for England?

I'm not going to even try and predict what they do. Feels like this isn't a contingency plan they'd have expected to need.

Ahmed wouldn't surprise me. Just fits the type of player they want in the side.

Could be the making of a all time great or destroying him ala Kerrigan/Crane. But even if the latter they'd still back him.to the hilt.

4 seamers with root or going for Dawson just feels like what we'd have done if this was cook/root as captain.

Personally feel Dawson the most like for like on the bowling front and then you get a very good number 8 out of it too(as would be the case if Woakes picked as fourth seamer)

Guess they go for what is most likely to take 20 wickets on flat wickets.

More of the same RMF from Woakes, a spinner in Dawson who doesn't really turn the ball but can hold down and end or an underveloped leg spinner in Ahmed with variations who may get more tap but take wickets.

If you consider The Oval and Old Trafford are more conducive to leg spin would not surprise me if they opted for Root in tests 1-3 then bought in Ahmed for the final two. If what you bring in is no better than what you have why change it

Not for me, he really struggled against Australia 4 years ago was out bowled by Leach. Don’t think he’ll be any better

I’d be surprised if he wasn’t

As I have said before anything pre stokes n McCullum is totally out of the window
nobody has tried to play cricket like ths before and its transformed most players
Just prepare a load of green tops and have three day test matches where we try to blaze 300 against a swinging ball and then bowl them out with a four man pace attack. Jobs a good’un.

Stokes wants and will get the complete opposite to this
Your sig f***ing hell he actually said that?

He's got nee self awareness considering he accuses others of abuse, but nobody resorts to anywhere near his ridiculous level of abuse.

It was clearly a joke like.

Total utter nonsense

I think a key point that nobody has mentioned is that Dawson was reserve for Leach in Pakistan, and would have been called up if the same injury happened there

different conditions mind of course

Read a few journo pieces, the thought of Mo Ali is a romantic idea mind, a few suggesting England play 4 seamers first test, then could bring him in after

He is well past his best, but he has so much ability, you wonder if he could have one last hurrah, batting and bowling.

I think if he can't, and we want to play spinner, then my choice is Dawson.
In shock here....but in agreement, Dawson is the safe option and in some ways (batting, fielding and 1 day experience) a better fit for this team than Leach.

I'd still be well tempted with Livingstone at 8 just for the laugh of
Root
Brook
Bairstow
Stokes
Livingstone

As a 4-8
