How much longer till this lad gets an England debut in any format we reckon

Depends if his face fits with the current regime really.

It would appear that it doesn’t given his consistently good record for a number of seasons now.

George Dobell reckons he’s been too consistent. If he’d had a couple of down years followed by an 80 average season he’d have been picked by now. Problem of course for him is he bats in a position that isn’t particularly in need of reinforcements at present.

Aye. You've either gotta be from Yorkshire or a friend of Rob Key to have half a chance of getting anywhere near this England squad. If your face fits, in ya go - if it doesn't, on ya bike.

Your bottom line is just the simple reality like

You ain’t stopping Joe root for him, not sure why people are saying “face doesn’t fit”

That’s the exact opposite of what this team is about

Think he will get a white call up first.

Nah just got to have ability to score quickly. Your mate can’t even get in his own domestic county side, so maybe his face doesn’t fit there either
Like pope

Made vice captain and promoted to 3 which was totally undeserved at the time let’s be honest

Does his face fit then? I’m confused Chops

Yeah really kicked on even more this year, I thought he might have got a go in one of the white ball series in the winter

I think the most promising thing for him was his t20 knock, shows he has even more gears

Some talent about

My advice to these blokes like is go and open, if you go n open and score runs at a decent lick you have a great chance of getting in.

Exactly. They are coming over in September

He’s not really into sport though so he’s a good lad

He does want to go to the sol for a game for his Mrs to experience a game in England

He looks like George Groves the now ex boxer

Have you not thought about going to Australia for the ashes

Definitely the issue he's the Joe Root player in the ODI side so you ain't replacing him.

But that Pakistan series was absolutely perfect to pick him last year when they all got COVID and inexplicably he wasn't selected. Was absolutely baffling.

He doesn't score his red ball runs fast enough and our middle order is strong so no chances he's playing tests.

We do have an issue that all our best T20I batsman are best opening. We've got nobody really that can bat 3-6. Even stokes best knocks in IPL he opened the batting. So a chance for Hain there.

I don't think he was in that kind of form then was he though? Maybe he was, its a new regime anyway

This is what Brook did last year, its good to see someone dominating.

You are right about his red ball strike rate, but he does have the white ball record too, which they will consider. I dont think can emphasise enough how selection is different under this England regime now. Without brining it back to Foakes, forget whether you think he should be in side etc its just an example, the fact he can't get in Surrey's domestic white ball side tells me he won't play much under Stokes n McCullum

Different format, but it represents the skills that England are after. The fact Hain is replicating Brook in doing it in all formats tell me he will have a chance.

I think whats holdin him back as you say is his batting position. One reason Lawrence is in the squad is that they believe (rihtly or wrongly) that he can open, bat 3 and bat in the middle order
