Bid rejected for Clarke

I am not as sold on ‘the model’ as a lot on here seem to be. If players are to be developed and eventually sold on that is one thing, but selling them after a single year would be hard to take. They need to be here longer than that.

Surely the super rich KLD and Satori are not desperate for the money. Do you think if they got £20m for Clarke they would sanction £20m worth of signings?

Has he gone like?

Edited to say would be hard to take
Think we just need to see what happens.

I believe we won’t sell unless 3 things are in place.

The right price
The right time
The right replacement

Very similar to Brighton and Brentford.

Brentford for example have signed that Dutch keeper from Germany. 11m. He’s through the door and they’ve put Raya up for sale for 40m.

Brighton turned down 60m for Caicedo from arsenal because his replacement wasn’t ready, they thought they could get more money and didn’t want to sell him in the Jan window.

The ‘model’ works only if we sell at the right time for SAFC and the players when the time comes.

What might go in our favour here is that Clarke has made a big move too soon and it stunted his development.

If we are to recruit the next talented young thing (and repeat) then we have to show we are a club that progresses careers, doing the right thing but not necessarily cashing in when a the first big cheque is waved in front of our noses or for that matter holding a player back too long. It also shouldn’t be about appeasing the fans. Getting that balance right is key.

Well what are you expecting ? We are a championship club. We like 86 other clubs in English professional football will sell any player if we can make a wedge on them. Reality is outside of Man City , Real Madrid etc any player who has ambition will push for a move to a bigger club or higher league position given the chance

Roberts is not in the same league as Clarke. Any Premiership club could have picked up Roberts over the last few years. Clarke is much younger and will play most of his career in the Prem imo.
