The risk for Clarke as far as Brentford go is to look back a year. Lewis-Potter was coming off the back of a very good Championship season, went for a big fee then hasn't had a look in.

Its going to be a long summer.

Hopefully we can keep everyone we want to but I've resigned myself to atleast 1 leaving and do think Clark is the most likely.

Hopefully we can get these lads new deals on better terms for now, but unless we go up soon we need to accept were going to lose players.

And as i think we may struggle next season compared to last, id rather lose 1 now than 3 or 4 next year.

No mate, i'm not. £9m to a club in the Championship is massive money. It doesnt matter where that £9m came from and whether it's spent on players or day to day running of the club. Especially if you believe what you read on here and we havent got a pot to piss in. £9m as a fee for Clarke with 20+ goal contributions is paltry when we could get double if not more.

Not many in this division would hold their nerve when a nigh on eight figure fee is waved in front of their noses. It's a sign of where we are that we can bat it away, especially where we have been the past four years.

I’m not sure players think like that. 22 and off the back of a great season I’d imagine most professional footballers would want to try themselves at the highest level they can achieve and back themselves to get a place in the team.

We also shouldn’t forget the attraction of money and London, not just about the football.. He will be on less than 10k a week here. If he goes to Brentford for 20 he will get a massive signing on fee and be on 50k a week plus I’d imagine being the average premier league salary these days. Young lads ultimately will be motivated by money as well and we can never get near it whilst a non premier league club.

Was gonna say the same. Obviously it's just words, but he seemed like he'd rather be playing then not. Obviously he's not gonna turn down a huge wage increase - but if we can give him that then he'll probably not want to move (you'd hope)

A lot of truth in what you say, however Clarke has done London before with Spurs and it wasn't a positive experience not getting first team chances and being loaned all over the shop.

He hated LONDON ,he is home both here and fulford in york.As long as we give him a decent offer he will stay and by all accounts the club are sorting it now.

When you've already got a lad as talented as he is on the books, if they're happy to stay just give them the pay rise. if we break our structure for him, it might also open the door for Stewart to be revisited. We can't go over the top but for a few key players it has to happen at some stage.
 
If he can get a 4 year contract at a premier league club on hugely inflated wages he’s made for life of course he’s going to go!

He could regress next season with us and never be in the same negotiation position again.

I’d imagine the last contract he got at a PL club set him up fairly well, but didn’t do a lot for his footballing career and he ended up having to drop to league one.

If we offer him a decent wage I think he knows he’s on to a good thing here and we are hopefully headed upwards anyway.
