16.4 Could be AXED!

There’s no evidence that would be true. The Blast lost tv interest even as its crowds grew. The tv wasn’t interested in the 18 team multiple game format. It wasn’t selling. 11/18 of a test player in each team wouldn’t have saved it. The format spent most of 20 years falling further and further behind the IPL. For a reason.
Then why not refresh the blast and built on what they had? Look at getting some games on free to air and marketing it better. The Hundred just dilutes things further

Expand the Blast to two divisions with promotion and relegation

Have a separate T20 knockout cup with 32 teams to include 14 minor counties (similar to the old one day cup) with finals day (semis and final) in September.
According to Dobell this is precisely what is being considered

With this new American T20 going to played at the same time , who will all the wandering t20 player end up going ?

Jason Roy is going and it’s rumoured Reece Topley will be signing up .

wonder how Rob Keys “best v the best “ will look come the start of the 16.4 this summer ?

275,000 tickets sold for this years tournament. When you break that down to an average is around 8000 per game so that’s not good.

There’s my fear though.

The failure of the ECB’s attempt to set up a tournament that can compete globally, inevitable though it now looks for its ill-conceived current attempt, will not be magically make the Blast such a tournament, or be to the benefit of the counties or English cricket, but will benefit the even more meaningless franchise tournament the IPL chooses to set up to complete its year round circus.

It’s heads they win, tails we lose for English cricket.

And with the London grounds likely taking most of them then some games outside the capital are going to be quite thinly supported.

No doubt Cardiff will blame Covid restrictions again.

Judging by the swathes of empty seats for Middlesex versus Surrey last night, the creation of a regional supposed “top tier“ is having the same effect on the domestic tournament now relegated to second tier status as the equivalent regional franchises had on support for domestic Welsh rugby though, just as I feared.

Lose lose again.

The idiots have wrecked cricket in this country
We currently 50 over world champions, 20 over world champions and have won 10 out of the last 12 tests with a superb run of entertaining brand of cricket.

And seem to have incredible depth and talent especially in white ball cricket and have incredible depth in our test bowling department.

Yeah cricket wrecked in this country!!

There's more to cricket than just internationals.

We are reaping the rewards of the organisation of the game from 5 or 10 years back. Let's see how things look in a few years if Country cricket, T20 and 50 over continues to be pushed out of the way for 100.

And the Ashes being done by end of July is pathetic. The main test series should be positioned in the school hols whenever possible. I assume it's so early to make way for 100.

I think success of the national team is the barometer in which a cricket nation should be mostly judged on.

And the current England set up taking all 3 formats into account is as successful as I can ever remember.

Not all doom and gloom in the slightest quite the opposite

That's fine. We can agree to disagree. The ECB in my view needs to scrap this nonsense franchise cricket and look at how to get crowds back to T20 and CC.

Yeah fine mate would much prefer a T20 tournament as that is what others countries play and been a proven success.

Although I do think any short format tournament should be at the height of summer and in the school holidays to attract kids and families

Just making the point mate that imo a bit over the top considering the success of our national teams for cricket to be described as ‘wrecked’ in this country

But both of those can be true at the same time.

Looks like it might not be scrapped FFS!

Let’s see how many of the mythical “best” are playing once this American league has started .

Jason Roy World champion, so has to be considered one of the best is the first one out of the gate
