Tony Mowbray

I have no issue with TM being replaced at all . Done a good job this season but as a club with a proactive progressive owner with a definite plan am happy to go with the flow . Well done tone we all had a blast , enjoy your big pay off.

I'm surprised that this is being considered considering the impact that TM has. And I'd more than happily see what further progress he could make next season.

BUT, the club got absolutely shot with shit when they didn't have a replacement lined up when they got rid of Johnson. They learned from that and appointed Mowbray quickly when Neil left (it was clear that he was engaging with the club before Neil left).

So in their relatively short tenure the owners already have experience of having to appoint a manager when the current one underperforms or one leaves unexpectedly. Both situations point to the need for succession planning. Not that we have had much experience of it at Sunderland in the past, but you would expect a multi-million pound business to pay attention to that. You can see they are applying those principles to player recruitment, so why wouldn't they do the same with an even more important position?

While not actively setting out to ditch Mowbray, you could see them doing their research to prepare for the worst and coming across one or two prospects who a) completely fit what they're looking for and b) have such a buzz about them that it suggests they will be out of our league after their next job. So perhaps they feel there is a short window to nab such a prospect. One thing's for sure, they wouldn't do it if they didn't think it was a real opportunity to take the club forward. To the frustration of many, they're pretty tight with the purse strings. Would they really choose to pay up the final year of Mowbray's contract unless they think there is a compelling reasons to do so? I actually think - if there is any truth to this - they might try to offer Mowbray another role at the club.

Replacing Mowbray with an unknown European manager could of course be a disastrous. But maybe, just maybe, this is what sensible, professional, well planned ambition really looks like...

He deserves a full season with a fully fit squad.
A squad is the main point for me. Not just a strong first team. Think we need to cash in on Clarke and build. More strength and stature in the middle of the park.

He's done remarkably well this season, especially given the injuries. The players seem to love him. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that he'd go one better next season, maybe the stars just aligned over the last six months, but he deserves a chance imo.

If the club think they can do better we have no choice but to trust them and hope for the best.

Mostly I'd be sad to see him go given the affection he clearly has for the club and these lads.

TM is part of the feel good factor around the club, in the squad and in the backroom staff.

He is part of the attraction that will help get the best loan and young premier League players to consider us as the best option for their careers.

I’m sure the rest of the championship would love to see us bin him off and disrupt the momentum we have carefully built.

Someone mentioned that part of the relaxed atmosphere around the place was created by TM working just normal hours and getting home at normal times every night and encouraging the rest of the staff to do so. This sounds a far more sustainable approach than the usual 18 hour working days coaches claim to do when they are parachuted into a club hundreds of miles away from their home. That’s why they bring their mates with them to create a little clique.

If they sack him, that's me finished with them. He's done a fantastic job, and with a squad that was just promoted from League One. Personally, I thought we'd be fighting against relegation again. They can bring in whoever they like, but that's me away.

Will be hard to miss you when you’ve only made three posts though!

It's not proactive to sack a manager who has done a very good job and progressed a team beyond expectation playing some wonderful football.

TM has done wonders with a patched up, injury ravaged & decimated, young squad.
The return of injured key players, plus a few quality additions, and we'll really take some stopping next season.
Why undo the good work Mogga has done with the young lads ?
He loves it here, he's a good fit for the club, and father figure to the young lads, so imo, he ought to be allowed to continue in his role as 1st team coach, so he can finish the job of winning promotion, with a fully fit squad to pick from each week.

Or it could be KS wants more of his men in, because TM is not really his man.

We are not privey to what TM wants to do .He is very experienced and knows that its easy to create an unnecessary media/fan storm in football and definitely will not share what he knows until he has to. His management of the media in the final weeks of this season was exceptional. He might just want the original 2 years and the club have to prepare for that .We should keep him he is right for us at this time.

 He's done a good job but he had a good set of players to work with and there was no chance they were going to be fighting relegation regardless of who was in charge.
