County Cricket 2023

I was thinking that when I saw they’d declared they’d pretty much guaranteed themselves a loss. Bizarre.

Don’t think that bizarre

I think 250 to knock off, in fourth innings is not that straightforward and by declaring they probably thought it would encourage the other team to play shots, hence giving them more chance to take wickets, if they just batted for longer and did not give Middlesex a carrot, would have been harder to take wickets to force a win and game turning into a draw, test bowler in Broad in their ranks and Middlesex have lost 6 wickets so could have worked in their favor.

The fact both teams thinking of winning great advert for county cricket and points system encourages these risks which is good imo

My only annoyance was at the end the Notts bowlers slowed it down deliberately in the hope that the light would fade.

Umpires checked at the end of each over and there was a worry they'd take them off. Luckily it didn't happen and Middlesex won with an over to spare.

I know the laws state that if the light falls to a reading on the meter from a previous day when they took them off then they come off during the game for the same reading. I hope there is some flexibility allowed at the end when a game is nicely balanced like this one. Otherwise one side can just use delaying tactics and cricket shoots itself in the foot.

Yeah really hope soo, and would like to think common sense should be applied and more flexibility given when a team is close to winning a game.

250 off 39 overs really good effort mind in the fourth innings of the match, so although Notts very positive the chase not that easy imo.

Real credit to both teams, already seen this season teams been more positive, don’t know whether the effect of the England side or the points change, either way great for county cricket imo, and the more of these type of games the better.

Seems like we were the only game that the weather didn’t have an impact on. Despite the rain Kent and Warwickshire are struggling in their respective games. Kent are 113/6 against Middlesex who are looking for back to back victories whilst Warwickshire are 143/8 against Surrey.

Crawley bowled by Tim Murtagh for 11

A pair of draws from the two remaining games would be nice for Durham.

Gloucestershire 226-9
Sussex 455-5dec

Leicestershire 407
Glamorgan 475

We’ll have a 19 point lead if they’re all draws I believe
Gloucestershire 43/4 with 22 overs left

I imagine Leicestershire will be very happy with their second place at present, and with a game in hand. Uncharted territory for them in recent years!
Another century for Patel.

On paper our next game is our hardest of the season. If we can win or avoid defeat and take a few bonus points I’d really fancy us to finish top of the pile.

Updated Division Two odds after the month of April:

Sussex 3/1
Yorkshire 10/3
Durham 4/1
Worcestershire 13/2
Glamorgan 7/1
Gloucestershire 11/1
Leicestershire 11/1
Derbyshire 28/1

I said at the beginning of the season that I thought Yorkshire would find it tougher than they probably expected down in Division Two, of course they could still win it from here and there’s a lot of cricket left to go, but that’s a hideously stingy price. Regarding Sussex, I think their quality/capability has been inflated with the Pujara and Steve Smith effect. Similar could be said of Glamorgan with regards to Marnus.

For us, fitness and availability will be the biggest factor - especially to the bowling corps.

I’m a betting man, but there’s no smart money at all at those odds.

What about 25/1 for T20 I know historically we are awful but a confident team and we have capable players beddingham Robinson lees I'd back to get runs

If only chops. We had Stubbs but we await his replacement

I expect a much improved t20 though

Only need to finish top 4 then anyone's game we will be after a Pakistan batter from what iv read
I can see us getting fourth .

Need to win 10 or 11 games . They are playing with great confidence and if the likes of Carse, coughlin, lees play well with Clark and Robinson we have a chance

If we get a top Pakistan t20 star then it’s all the more on
