Attendance Thread - Watford

The would only expand above the south stand and south west corner first. Which would expand capacity to 55,000. They wouldn't expand to 66,000 above east stand unless we were constantly in top 4/6
Correct, the club still have planning permission to add the upper tier to the South West Corner and South Stand that was for 7,232 seats although it would need re-approved. Bigger than the North Stand extension which was around 6,000 due to them being able to build out and have it 27 rows all the way around where they couldn't with with North Stand due to the Road being so close.

I know I was mocked earlier in the thread about expanding the stadium but we need to seriously consider it. I don't mean going up to the max 83k ish, 63/64k would do it. We're easily selling out with very little success in the championship. Imagine if we were pushing for Europe in the PL....our ground would be too small.
We've the 8th biggest capacity in England but that will be 10th when Everton and Chelsea increase theirs.
When SoL was expanded to 49k in 2000 we were in the top 3 or 4. If we're serious about competing at the top, we need a bigger ground.
If KLD or the next bloke/state get it right, then current capacity is too small. A successful Sunderland would need a bigger capacity.
63k is the max expansion available without major surgery.
I agree it should be done.
The north stand added 7k seats. South would add another 7k you’d imagine. So there’s 55k. The east stand extended would surely be more than 8k

The original intent was to extend the South Stand to mirror the North Stand, that would take the capacity to 55k, then the East Stand would complete the upper bowl with a capacity of 63k

The thing is the extension of the SWC and SS would only replicate what’s at the north end and they’re pretty crap seats no one wants. Would have been better to do the east stand first. Better seats and would have given loads of extra room for bars etc. even if they didn’t want to make it corporate like the west side it would have given the stadium a more even feel.
I disagree. I think it would look better with seats behind both goals. And corners. (A bit like Old Trafford and Celtic Park. But that's just my opinions.

It's 66,000 not 63,000. 11,000 extra all the way from South to North

I meant before they did the north end. Stadium is a bit lop sided now. Not as bad as SJP like which just looks silly. But yeah both ends done would look good.

I get what you mean now. Yeah maybe that would have looked better. But eventually if they do the south stand extension, it would look far better. But that will only happen if we had success. That may be the owners plan. Our support is growing nationwide and worldwide lately. Like someone mentioned before. Even the keano season in championship we were getting crowds of 30-32,000 now we're getting 37-42,000 most weeks. So if we reach the Premier league. I can imagine we'd get 45,000 plus no problem every week

Rob Mason did a book and the estimates are 66-70k

Yeah I read it somewhere years ago. They'll do the 55k first and the next plan would be to extend all the way round to 66-67,000 probably could do more if they wanted. They'd just have to have a few extra rows back like someone stated before. Our stadium would look class like that tbf. And club would make a killing off the corporate side as there'd be boxes and bars all the way around. But can't see that happening unless some rich Arabs take us over. Because Kyril doesn't seem to have the coin to take us to that level imo
Why would we expand a stadium of 49,000 with an average attendance of 39,000?
People on here just getting ahead of themselves as we've basically sold out for the last game. But if/when we are in the prem again. I think it would make sense to extend to 55k if we have successful seasons and are filling what we have. But it would be daft to extend now. You are right

People need to calm down
I think club need to get other revenue into club other than match days to be sustainable, away allocations could be bigger too. Aslong as lower bowl is filled, would look ok
It would cost tens of millions to extend. It'll probably take decades to get their money back as it would rarely ever be used.

Stupid idea.
