The Safety of Fans in the North Stand

Does at happen at the mags ground?
Obviously similar set up.

Just put a net up. Ring Sheffield utd, ask where they got theirs from, get one fitted.
That's how long it takes to look into it.
Aye man United threw coins down at them.

Also when we played them we threw one off a lad in a wheelchair

At this rate it's going to take major injury or worse for the club to do anything.

It's been on the cards for years and it's disgraceful nothing effective has been done.

Move them.

Are we going to wait until a child is scarred for life or worse?
Manchester City are reported to be considering putting up netting in front of the away section at the Etihad Stadium after incidents at recent games, particularly involving Liverpool supporters.
A 15-year-old girl was “scarred for life” after being struck by a pint glass weighted with coins that was thrown from the end populated by Liverpool supporters during a Carabao Cup tie in December.
Billy Hogan, the Liverpool chief executive, contacted the injured City supporter’s family to offer an “unreserved apology”.
City have discussed the matter with the city council and safety groups, and are understood to be discussing putting up netting to try to protect fans and players from being hit by missiles thrown on to the pitch.
The club have decided that they cannot risk a repeat of the Liverpool incident — or another like the scenes at Chelsea in the FA Cup last month, when missiles were thrown from the away stand — and understand the need to protect their supporters.

The occasions when the netting will be used will be judged, it is believed, on a case-by-case basis, when the risk of crowd trouble is thought to be higher.
Netting around stadiums is not an uncommon sight at matches in Europe, but it is a tactic rarely used in the Premier League.
City play Liverpool again on April 1 in the Premier League. It is not yet known whether the nets, which would be flame resistant, will be used for that match.
Greater Manchester police also disclosed that a City supporter was ejected at the Liverpool game in December and arrested for a racially aggravated public order offence after visiting fans were abused at the stadium.

Wherever the away fans were in the lower bowl and that's North or south would not be 10x worse in the slightest bit. People seem to completely miss the fact that someone could quite easily die from objects being thrown from such a height. This is the main and pretty much only reason the North stand fans want them in the lower. If people want to be dicks and have fisticuffs then let them. They're the ones that will be arrested and banned from the stadium. I'm sick of hearing the reasons why they can't be moved to the lower bowl as not a single one of them trump fans safety.

I've always stated the stadium was designed for them to be in the south and find it staggering the council have said no because of development. It's an utterly pathetic reason. That said , if they end up in the North lower I couldn't care less as long as they are not above home fans putting their health and lives at risk every single match as its happening far too often.

I didn't say anything against the lower bowl mate just not the South Stand. You have to remember there's plenty in the away end who don't want to put up with shit from our bellends at the same time and there's plenty of innocent fans who can get involved in fisti cuffs aswell not to mention nuggets who carry knifes around lately. If you can get a smoke bomb or glass bottle in there a knife is piss easy.

The last thing we need is kids being twats every game. Moving the problem from one end to the ground isn't a solution. It's moving the issue.

There's plenty solutions to fix it with them being up there but the club don't want to spend money to do it and the lack of stewards every game is pretty noticeable and getting smoke bombs in, in the first place is just inexcusable.

Is it time we look at metal detectors and x-ray machines for bags etc? Plenty of places do it outside of sports and a net for high risk games is just a given.

Whatever the solution it has to be made quickly and it has to suit and it simply cannot involve the away fans being above the home fans

There are a lot of young children sitting around us in the North stand and it’s not acceptable to feel unsafe at the game. The police were a joke and only moved up there in numbers after the flares had been thrown down onto our fans. The club needs to act - simple as that

There’s plenty of stewards in the away end tbf, but a steward isn’t going to stop someone chucking something.

Yes but you’re forgetting that would involve the club spending money. So that’s not going to happen.

In fairness it could easily work up there, plenty of stadiums abroad where there's not an issue.

I know I'm diverting it a bit but the away stand is the least of the issues with security.

Literally a few year back there was a terrorist attack at Manchester Arena yet the response from football grounds is ...? Anyone and I mean anyone could strap a bomb to their chest and walk straight into the stadium as there's absolutely no checks anywhere. It's embarrassing. Not to mention there's nothing stopping someone with a truck coming 5 minutes before kick off and mauling down 1,000 fans walking over the bridge towards the ground.

If you fixed that issue then you'd fix the issue with chucking stuff as whatever those checks are will also remove the stuff ie. Glass bottles which are being thrown over.

I don't want to say it but it's just a matter of time before there's a serious innocent at some ground, just hoping it doesn't involve us but we're an easy target imo. Peeking your head in people's bags for 2 seconds is not a security check.
