The Safety of Fans in the North Stand

Ultimately, someone in the North Stand is very sadly going to be seriously injured (or worse) by this type of thing, sooner or later.

The club will then immediately put up netting and announce that away fans will be moved imminently, and have the justification of the poor supporter’s injury or death to quell any disquiet by whichever ST holders have to be moved to accommodate it.

The club have been too cowardly to risk upset over moving supporters to take any meaningful action over this, so whatever happens - and something horrible inevitably will - is firmly on them.

Where are the stewards/police manning the gates where the away fans get in and should be searched to prevent flares (not trousers ) being confiscated ?

In the current era of health and safety, its absolutely unbelievable that its even up for discussion. How can the club/authorities be reactive to this situation when all can see its a disaster waiting to happen

From what I can gather/have observed they aren’t allowed to search minors, or at least aren’t willing to. So just pass it to anyone with a kids ticket and they can just walk through with it. It’s probably the 15 year old yobs doing it anyway tbf

Appreciate that, and I know you sit in the North Stand so won’t be taking this lightly personally!

Myself and a number of friends are writing to HSE.

The club can do one.

If you have a suitable address / addressee - and perhaps a template of appropriate wording - then I'd ask it's shared on here.

The club have failed to suitably protect it's own fans despite repeated warnings and I'd be happy to embarrass and put pressure on certain people in the hierarchy until they take stronger and decisive action.

They’re not moving the away fans. So run along.
Why are you being a tosser taking pleasure out of winding up other Sunderland fans? It’s really shit crack mate, on what is supposed to be a serious thread. If you even read it, you’d notice I’m not even advocating moving them, but installing a Perspex barrier like Ajax have to prevent missiles being thrown.

How will they be moved club have already said they aren’t and the council rejected moving them to the south end of the ground

Fair enough that’s the only sensible solution.

There is plenty of other places they could be moved to that would be viable, including into the to be vacated SEC for the 24/25 season when the family zone moves, or the NEC. Or pretty much anywhere else that isn’t right above my head, or the head of other Sunderland fans. Which is about 100% of the lower bowl.

But the Perspex thing seems the best suggestion I’ve seen banded around. Or just cut their allocation to 0. Or spread them out with 1 fan then an empty seat all the way along the top and see if anyone dares throw anything then, in full view of a camera

Full south end of the ground was blocked by the council due to the future construction works that’ll be happening there. Rightly so as well when most fans attending arrive to that area of the ground and also meet up at the statue.

100% nail on head

Very wrong. The south stand near the SWC was all that was blocked. And it wasn’t for construction related reasons - it was due to some bollocks stat about reduced arrests since the move, which I maintain is false.

Exactly but it'll be far too late for the poor sod in question

Wonder if they put them at the lower level with safc fans above, how active the stewards and police would be on safc fans flinging stuff down onto them ?

I think if the were put in the back seats of the premier concourse, and starting chucking stuff at the freebies and executives in their seats , action would be taken instantly

The implications for the club if that happened can’t be underestimated. God forbid someone loses their life or suffers a serious head injury but once it became known that fans have been drawing the club’s attention to the risks (and indeed the likelihood) of it happening, that could be something the owners can’t recover from.

Yes it was due to future sheepfolds construction works. As stated on the club website.
Oh so you also know more than the police regarding crime stats.

Please provide this link to the clubs website. It doesn’t exist does it? The actual source is GG at the RAWA meetings, not the club website. And it was met was scepticism from those attending too.

The police have never ever tilted crime stats to their own benefit in anything ever in life. You are very naive.
