Both stadiums have seen better days and need some work. But it's undeniable that the shit tip seats more punters and has better surrounding infrastructure (thanks TWDC).

And as much as it sickens me to cross their threshold, I've been to 2 rugby matches there and would also say its easier to get a pint in the Wongadome. The SoLs catering amenities are frustratingly shit.

Swings and roundabouts Roker and Ayresome hosted games in 1966. StJames didnt.
St James was offered the 66 World Cup gig first. But the NUFC hierarchy couldn’t be arsed to upgrade the ground. Sunderland did by covering the fulwell and putting seats in. Also installing exec boxes in the main stand.
Newcastle refused to do bugger all so they got the World Cup taken off them.
Idiots.

Fairly obvious choice really - you need a proper infrastructure around the ground for this which we simply don’t have. There’ll be tens of thousands of fans travelling over from all over the place and we wouldn’t be able to house them, feed them or water them, nor transport them here or back home.

We have very similar infrastructure to Newcastle tbf. And even then, there is nothing stopping fans staying in Newcastle or Sunderland when the games are the other location.
