The Safety of Fans in the North Stand

You are acting an absolute prat by suggesting that the risk is the same wherever you throw something. Very basic physics says there is a significant velocity increase when throwing from height, unless we’ve got Hercules throwing something at us from the away end?

Attempting to ridicule arguments about something as serious as this with your ad absurdium approach is prat-like behaviour however you want to phrase it

That’s absolutely and categorically not true and I have confirmation of the lack of a council objection in writing from the clubs safety officer.

It’s pathetic really that the club are forcing season ticket holders who’ve sat in their seat since the beginning of time to move for safety reasons. I specifically sat in the north stand in 1997 as it was as far away from the trouble and away fans as possible. Then 20+ years later they’re brought to us without any consultation whatsoever

There’s a lot around us at the moment that’s either moved for next season or are actively considering it.

What a lot of folk don’t appreciate is, the object throwing is pretty regular. On Boxing Day, Blackburn chucked a load of stuff down and yet it wasn’t really reported. Yesterday, several objects were chucked from Hull and again, not much has been made of it.

How does moving the away fans from upstairs not remove the problem of them throwing things from 100 foot in the air? Do they have massive seats to stand on in the south stand to throw stuff down from?

I agree entirely. Except that I don’t see why I should move, so my options are to stay or to cancel altogether. I’ve had this seat since the SOL opened, it’s my seat and I don’t want to relocate. I like my view, people around me and everything like that. I’d rather cancel than relocate tbh. And much more throwing and I won’t be staying where I am either …

I find being older helps. If you look like a harmless old gadgie, you don't get searched, especially if you have a stick, which, of you think about is an offensive weapon you can carry legally.

Culture difference between then and now maybe, drink and drug use through the roof these days young lads not giving a fuck of consequences.

So the only thing that stopped lads throwing things from 100 foot above in the south stand was drug use? Nothing logistically around not being 100 foot in the air?

I’ve witnessed our fans throwing objects at opposing players this season, so where ever fans sit the idiots will throw things, until tougher measures are brought in

Were any of those thrown in a manner as to create enough velocity to seriously injury or kill a small child (or even an adult tbf)?

Our fans are idiots too - I’m not disagreeing. Also why I didn’t suggest putting our fans over the away fans either

No but point remains objects with the potential to cause harm will be thrown, just round in circles here, I appreciate your points, but i cant see anything changing next season or beyond, away fans will continue to sit where they are and cause problems

That‘s my experience when I was hit by a coin and reported it to the police. My son and me will never sit in the North Stand again and the only way that positive action will be taken is if every Sunderland supporter dose the same. That would be some sight, a group of away supporters at the top of the North Stand whilst being completely empty below.

Must admit, it made me think twice about renewing mine and the bairns seats there. Wanted to move but there's 9 of us so there wasn't anywhere else decent in the lower bowl that we could have gone to. They need to do more though, it's shit constantly having to worry about that when you're just trying to get the bairn interested in safc

Fair comment, although banning orders have prevented people in the past with hooligans.

Just think people pelting things from above when there are families etc below is disgusting & it could cause serious injury.

They should chuck the book at the perpatrators
