Selling the soul of your club to be successful

You see the game isn't fair, and hasn't been for sometime, is all about logistics and who's got the most money, has been for decades now, the reason why any means necessary is the way to go is simple, unless we are happy to sit and watch newcastle, win a trophy, which is quite possible given the money they now have, we need to be spending the required amount to get out of the championship, and then get back in the premer league, and then get the required, funds to actually compete with the best. fair playing field doesn't exist at the top of the table of football.
I don't think it's ever been fair, it's been a little more balanced in the past but heck we were nick named bank of England club way back in the 40s? It's just the gap between the stupid rich and the have nots has grown massively. You won't see a team like forest go up win European cups etc unless oil money comes in and buys them. They've made what could be done with unique talents and alot of luck now needs a fuck ton of money too.

That's true but this is a personal question and personally I'd hate to have such abject, immoral owners. I would not want to be associated with such a rabble. It would be heartbreaking but I think I'd have to walk away had those murderers taken over my club.
I'd still watch but I wouldn't put any money in.

Also wouldn't defend with whataboutery either.

That's why with some mags I feel for them as its your club. The majority though they can fuck off with their whataboutery and defending their owners.

Do you not think the perfect fan experience would be supporting a non league team let's say some one that only takes 100 away fans . They would become almost like family and players actually playing because they care ,not what they agent tells them to do or going on strike ....and imagine if you can navigate through the fa cup rounds I think I'd rather have that as a fan then supporting a team where the moneymen have raped the game like a man city ....

But saying all that I was born in Wearside so that's my team for life ....anybody who says they would rather be in championship rather than prem league don't want what's best for safc

Nah I think one of the best things about supporting SAFC is the numbers we take away, we are one of a handful of clubs who basically sell out every away game.

Don't think anyone would rather be in the PL than the Championship, but I just think the journey is better than the destination. I wonder how old time Man City fans view their L1/D2 playoff final win vs Gillingham now? I reckon they probably still love it.

You're lying to yourself if you believe that. Do you actually think that after 6 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups, 6 League Cups, and a Champions League Final that there are many Man City fans that hate what has happened?

There might be a very small minority, but the vast vast majority of football fans would have City's success in a heartbeat, and NUFC have probably just sold their soul alongside City for it. The fans won't care though.

Disagree, if you have been going say 30+ years you probably have a different perspective ( having seen lots of ups/downs) , at the very least would be uncomfortable with the new owners irrespective of silverware

In the cold light of day the new owners are sullying their image and deep down the older supporters will know it.

If you have just started supporting city in the last 5 years clearly probably makes no difference

That is exactly correct. However, think back to the last European League proposal? It was stopped by fans of Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd. They took a moral stand against it. It was fans saying we can stop this as it's wrong. The moral vacuum that is the Newcastle fanbase would welcome a European Super League with open arms. I am still amazed how there is zero uncomfortableness about their ownership. They contrast so clearly with those big club fans who stopped the Euro League.

With Newcastle their owner was the worldwide pariah after having Khashoggi murdered so it really is on a different level. Maybe Putin will be looking to invest in a few years.

And PS

Just because a club gets invited into the SuperDuper League doesn't mean that they are expected to be competitive in it. The owners of the SuperDuper league will still want big names like PSG to win, they will just need teams to make up the numbers

I think the perfect fan experience in my lifetime is Leicester City. Been shite but won a few cups, came from nowhere to win the league, had a QF run in the Champions League, and are probably gonna return to being shite with some unbelievable memories.

I think it must be boring to be a Man City fan, you should win every game so when you don't it's annoying and when you do it's more like relief than joy.

In short, nah I wouldn't want a Saudi/Qatar/UAE state ownership, even leaving aside the morality aspect.
Summed up very well.
Wouldn’t matter if none of it had happened, would never ever want to be anything other than Leicester .
Not been many dull moments over the last 30 odd years.
This season is a reality check , maybe we revert to yo yo Leicester , maybe we get things rolling again.
That’s the beauty and the helplessness of having it in your blood.

I just want to be proud of my club.

SAFC represents us across the world, one of the few things that highlights our small corner of the globe.

Success at any costs, selling out soul to the highest bidder, no, not for me.

I get the appeal of massive wealth, new shiny baubles, instant gratification, winning things. I just think when it’s all washed up you’ll feel unsatisfied - like completing a game with a cheat code, except your cheat code brings untold misery to millions in places most don’t know exists.

I rather do it properly, I’d rather be known as the club that always has exciting teams and cracking young players - a team the neutrals respect and admire. A team that might not eat at the top table every season, but will win something and will do it in the right way.
Aye then all the good young players fuck off and we are back to square one

Probably get slaughtered for this post .

But we were great before we were all born.

That success has made us what we are but also highlighted how we are complete fuck ups since.

I love that I’m a lads lad.

I’m Sunderland till I die and beyond.

I’m proud of the club and all of us .

We are what we are and I love that.

I have an ex-mag friend who has severed all his ties and affection for them since the takeover, in fact he is more interested in us now.

He is disgusted with the whole thing but mostly with the way their fans and especially the media are fawning over them
Well there's at least one with a moral compass, didn't a lad start something alerting other fans to what the owners get up to anarl? I want us to have success but not at any price and state ownership by a murderous regime isn't a price I'd pay, if that North Korean nutjob fancied buying us some would say OK and start eating their dogs according to this thread, if that's you you are no better than the tea towel twats up the road, chew on that!

I'm happy that we are finally doing what I've wanted for a very long time, buying cheaper, younger and hungrier players rather than the overpaid, on the decline couldn't give a shit type of player.
Getting bought out by the Saudis will get some success for them up the road but for how long and what state will the club be in when they finally get bored and move on?

I get asked that question a lot as I live down south and always answer that I would stop supporting a club owned by the same sort of people, and every time i get the same answer, 'would you fuck'

Seems these days winning is everything and the ends always justify the means, which makes me sad

I think it's more about reinvestment for the Saudis, they know there's only so many years that oil money will keep rolling in so suddenly they are investing heavily in masses of property, tech, established blue chip businesses, banking and sadly sports clubs, I don't think it's about interest in the club itself it's about parking money and obviously the sportswashing.

I think Saudi Arabia buying us would finish me off. Imagine that, the same money thay was buying you a striker one week, was buying rockets for Al Qaeda the next.
I wonder if or when a player they want to buy refuses to even talk to them and highlights the reasons why might change things? I would love to see someone have the moral backbone to do it, I honestly thought Howe might have been the one to stand up for things probably knowing deep down he isn't a big enough name for them going forward, saying that he was in the job prior to them coming in but definitely someone approached by them then knocking them back for political/human rights reasons would be excellent box office!
