New Music Releases Thread

We have new releases this week from 100 Gecs, Black Honey, Genevieve Artadi. M83 (the full album), Runnner, T-Pain, U2 (re-recordings of songs from across their career), Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Yves Tumor, Blank Gloss, Emiliana Torrini & the Colorist Orchestra, Ailbhe Reddy and Death & Vanilla.

Kedr Livanskiy new album out tomorrow (17th) called Kosogor. It’s an album with Kosaya Gora and Flaty.

That’s a cracking lineup this week:

-Yves Tumor
- Unknown Mortal Orchestra
- deathcrash

All must listen tos.

Really enjoyed Lichen Slow after Arkle’s glowing recommendation.

On a side note I’m off to watch Meet Me In The Bathroom this evening exploring the emerging New York music scene in the 2000s. Should be good.

They're the three highlights for me along with Death & Vanilla.

I'd like to see Meet Me in the Bathroom as I enjoyed the book and it makes Ryan Adams come across as a twat.

Top 5 most played new albums this year

1. Free range - practice
Been on my rotation since it was released, gorgeous songs. Chigaco singer in the vein of Bridgers dacus etc. outstanding.

2. Jen cloher- I am the river, the river is me
By far her best album. Māori influenced, indie type stuff. Big surprise how good it is.

3.Steve mason - brothers and sisters
my least favourite of his last 3 but still great. Very anthemic, almost screamadelica. Love the 3 openers.

4.Sunny war - anarchist gospel
Nice song variation, and is there a more catchy track this year than ‘no reason’

5.Gaz Coombes - turn the car around..
Not keen on his previous stuff but this is a big step up. Don’t say it’s over 😎

Is the Jen Cloher album out? Thought that was later this month. Ah, caught out by the digital release different to physical thing.

As for my very brief review of new stuff from this week:

Blank Gloss: Ambient Americana. Very ambient, in fact. Piano and steel guitar. Releaxing but not sure how often I'd listen to it.
Ailbhe Reddy: Irish singer-songwriter. Quite spiky at times. Decent.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra: some of it is great and some a bit noodly.
Death & Vanilla: I like this. Scandi band who are maybe a little Stereolab influenced, to a degree.
deathcrash: I don't quite share the thread love in with them. I like them a lot but, for some reason they remind me of bands I listened to in the pre-Britpop late 80s and early 90s. Good though.
M83: the full album now rather than a chunk. Their best since the magnificent 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming'. Excellent.

Album of the week: M83 for me.

Yea was out about 3 weeks ago on Spotify.

From this weeks stuff I’m enjoying the death and vanilla album, also really like the Doug paisley new one, folk country stuff.
