Keeping off the drink.

End of week 3 of keeping off the drink midweek... feel absolutely champion and my blood pressure is now spot on.
Last night at footy I was the fittest I've been in years.

Got 4 cans in the fridge and really looking forward to them this weekend with a takeaway. The way I'm feeling I should be tempted to completely knock it on the head, but you have got to have something to look forward to in life

Well done mate! I’ve been off it a week today, lost 4lbs so tret myself to a new top. Im trying to stay off it for a few month but I know what you mean weekends are hard.

Wrapped in the drink 6th January 2021. I've never been horrific (aside from a few low points where looking back I had a bit of a problem), but I've also never had the "off switch". I'd go out for a couple with mates and while they'd have 3 or 4 then stop I'd just keep on until early hours. I could go weeks without it bothering me, but never thought I'd wrap in completely.

It's class at first, everything improves, from sleep to mental sharpness and overall happiness. At month 3 it gets a bit ropier and a lot of pushed down and bottled up emotions show up. At about month 5 everything is pretty much levelled out.

I don't think I'll ever go back to drinking now, I'll have alcohol free on nights out or trips away, and seem to enjoy (and certainly remember) things more than I did when I was drinking.

I'd recommend alcohol free to anyone wanting to try it, it's a really good way to satisfy the pang you get. Best ones for me are:

Beer: Hoegaarden 0.0, Erdinger 0, Heineken 0, Brewdog Punk AF
Rum: Stryyk, Caleño, Dead man's fingers
Gin: Seedlip, Tanqueray 0, Caleño
Whiskey: Haven't found any decent ones yet
Cider: The Old Mout 0 and Rekorderlig 0

I’m of the opinion if you didn’t drink you could probably run marathons mate…

Footy 8 times a week….

Have you found any on draft anywhere in Sunderland? I don't mind a few of them and would alternative if out for a long time but I hate drinking out bottles when I’m out.
Never looked to be honest mate, i find it's better for me to not having anything and drink soft drinks than even the 0% stuff.

15 months now. Started off with the non alcoholic beers. Soon have that up and when I’m out just drink sparkling water and treat myself to a coke now and then. Miss a pint every now and then, but found it incredibly easy to do. Know that’s not the case for some, and it can be very hard. I had a reason to do it though which I think helped. Love waking up every day not absolutely hanging, then rinse and repeat.
If anyone wants to do it and needs any support just drop me a DM

I haven’t fallen back into my old ways but I’ve had a drink in the house this weekend. A couple (4) cans on Friday night after a shit week which I shouldn’t have had. I was so tired it just made me feel sick and a couple (6 little ones) last night and I feel great this morning. I didn’t sleep well on either night too which left me shattered on Saturday. I’ve lost about 4kg but 2 holes on the belt and better generally. We are doing up a house so I’m guessing I would be shattered anyway but it’s not the alcohol that’s making me tired.
In another note, I’ve never spent so little coin.
I do think I’ve changed my ways but it would be very easy to go back to those ways but I don’t like that relationship I had with it but only the way it made me feel.
So easy to get in a place that like though because people find drinking so acceptable.

Don’t think I will knock it on the head altogether but need to get myself in a place where I’ve got a better relationship with it.
For me ( early days I know) but I woke up one morning and thought “ this is stupid “ and I changed my behaviour.
I guess it’s the same as any behaviour, you and only you need to o change your way of doing things .
I’m not preaching by the way.
I drink like a fish and do marathons...
What time would you manage if you didn’t drink?
In early 2004 it was approaching the end of the football season and we went over to the West Indies for 2 test matches. We drank loads and when we got back I eased right up for a few months. In that time I played better football, cycled better for longer distances and faster and I do feel my fitness massively improved.
I’ve watched and read stories about players like Tony Adams, Gazza and the likes who drank and played at the very top level whilst drunk and drinking heavily. Imagine how good Gazza or George Best could have been if they lived a lifestyle like Ronaldo?
