Attendance Thread - Stoke City

Which tells me that many modern day fans see a match more as a way of feeling part of something, being able to meet up with friends or have a drink. Every club now has a majority of fans who will turn up. Even Bradford City, having a moderate season in the fourth tier are averaging over 17,000. Our crowds are good but not remarkable. The interest in the game in England is remarkable.
I literally have had to re read that several times.

For the first time ever on here ………..

I’m lost for words.

Of course our crowds are remarkable, very few teams would get 38-40k plus on a regular basis on the back of four seasons in league one.
The big clubs certainly would, such as the Manchester and London clubs if they had suddenly found themselves with a couple of relegations. A struggling West Ham team are averaging over 60,000. Their all time record was I believe around 41,000 in the days when the three world cup winners played for them. Is that not remarkable ? The game has changed so much since the Premier League was formed and now even more in the time since the pandemic. Our gates are good but not remarkable as I believe at least another nine clubs - Man Utd, City, Liverpool, Everton, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle and West Ham would draw either similar or much higher crowds. Are not Southend's crowds remarkable for a team who at best can only make the National League play offs. They are drawing the same average as when they were in the second tier in the early nineties. Nowt wrong with our support but hardly remarkable.

He's got form for it. If you read his posts regarding any form of attendance topic
Yes, I have form. My opinion , and if you look at how football crowds have increased over the last few years you would see that many clubs are getting " remarkable " crowds .. so many in fact that those crowds are not remarkable merely but now the norm.

You still going with this ?

Fuck me man.

Have a day off

Of we only got this half right it would be mental
That is our story over the years. In the early sixties as a Second Division club we were drawing huge crowds, on a par with Man Utd and Liverpool, but did not kick on. When the North Stand extension was built I think we averaged over 46000. I said some months ago the club should permanently open all the Concourse. It will tempt more to go.

I declare ... enjoy the game tomorrow
