New Music Releases Thread

There are new releases this week from Daisy Jones & the Six, Jawny, Kali Uchis, Kate NV, Ron Gallo, slowthai, Steve Mason, The National Parks, Xiu Xiu, The Veils, Herman Dune, Elskavon, Brix Smith and Kimi Djabate.
Steve Mason and slowthai are the only names I’ve heard of in that list - any recommendations?

I’ve just realised that The Lathums new album is out today as well.

This popped up in my suggestions on YouTube. Pretty decent if you can forgive it being a bit derivative.

A quieter weak for new stuff. I've listened to:

slowthai - very, very good indeed. Reminds me of the current Young Fathers album in terms of energy.
Steve Mason - excellent as always. Some political songs, some south Asian influences but mostly has that distinctive Mason vibe to it.
Brix Smith - high energy indie rock, good fun throughout. Will be interesting live.
Kimi Djabate - a guitarist and singer from Guinea-Bissau. This would probably make a good introduction if you're looking to get into African music.
Kate NV - mildly annoying. It starts out and you think "a bit Dan Deacon" but it gets a bit irritating at some point.
Elskavon - ambient-ish electronic music. Very warm and engaging.
Ron Gallo - indie rock with pop hooks aplenty. Very good, on early listens, probably my favourite album of his.
The Veils - back after a 7 year hiatus. This is fairly epic stuff that reminds me a little of Suede at times and Nick Cave at others. Good.
Xiu Xiu - lots of wailing and moaning. It's an album about grief, I think.
Herman Dune - volume 2 of The Portable Herman Dune so more old songs done a bit more lo-fi. Very good as usual.
The Necks - not new (that was last week). I figured I'd try and work back through their catalogue an album at a time when I get a chance. This (Three) is three long improvised tracks and is probably as good as last week's Travel.

Album of the week: ignoring The Necks, I think it has to be slowthai. Good things from the rest except Kate NV and Xiu Xiu though.

Will give Brix and Veils a go when I get around to it. Completely forgotten about the latter but I have quite a few old albums and recall liking them. Totally fallen off my radar!

I was disappointed by Brix Smith's album. Just listening to Gaz Coombes again. It's probably my favourite of the year so far and his solo albums up to this point did little for me.
