Investment in the stadium

Just been to sheepfolds this morning, that scrapyard has gone opposite the fans museum, looks like it is going to be developed, anyone in the know?
Think its all part of the long term Sunderland Riverside Project which includes both sides of the Wear including a footbridge + accommodation . When you look at the plan it highlights the SOL is in the perfect location .

Apart from creating space in the Concourses it’s fine, went to san siro and it was dated but still class, not a fan of all these pristine mall like stadiums

It would be fairly easy to extend the north stand concourses as you’d just build a new wall level with the steelwork from the extension, install turnstiles in that wall then knock down the current turnstiles, provided they aren’t load bearing. By fairly easy I mean for a large building contractor.

If we get the euro2028 bid then we’ll surely spend a bit. The roof has just been repainted. The club probably think it doesn’t need that much work if Pink, Elton John & Beyoncé want to perform there and it’s only some people on RTG complaining.

I’d like us to spruce up the concourses and give the stadium a bit of identity.

How is it in the “marine environment”? Didn’t realise the stadium regularly took itself out to sea.
It will be classed as coastal. From memory that reduces the standard 25 year coating guarantee by 5 years for a start. It’s no surprise it’s flaking off by now. As others have posted this leaves the steel exposed to corrosion. Can either repaint or replace. It would all depend on what sort of budget the club want to allocate. The steel frame will be ok it’s almost a blank canvas if they want to give it a new look. Stadium design has moved on quite a bit since the SoL opened. At the time it was certainly more focused on function over appearance.

Dont suppose you know what they did on the roof? A full overcoat? Or repairs? I'd love to get up and have a proper look at the state of it
