Loan watch

Yes never mentioned in the olden days.Used these days to forwards that dont score much themselves.
Find it ridiculous that a lot of people use these sort of stats to guage how good a player is, instead of the seemingly old-fashioned way of actually watching them play and forming an opinion yourself!

Ekwah has never started a first team game in his life, Evans ACL is knackered and is approaching 33, Ba seems to be used wide or off the front more often than in the middle and Michut is currently only on loan. Literally only Neil doesn't have a question mark over him, except maybe that a PL team might hoy a big money bid in. I'm canny certain Matete will get his chance in pre season to stake a claim.
I mean the fact he was happy to loan him out and bring in the likes of ekwah must say something michut loan is irrelevant as he's performing really well so we will probably pay 5 mill otherwise why have the clause in the first place, Evans will come back as well

Absolutely, crept into the English football vocabulary by the fantasy league geeks and sadly seems almost as important as a goal these days. Saw the phrase ‘pre-assist‘ mentioned the other day, immediately stopped reading.

might be an american thing as both basketball and ice hockey keep track - american sports are way stat heavier than ours

Yeah definitely American, there’s more and more of their terms coming into our game and they sound ridiculous. ‘Baller’, ‘duel’, ‘transition’, it’s a load of bollocks.
I dont know what counts as the olden days but Summerbees assists were counted in 97.
Are you sure they haven’t just been counted since? Honestly can’t remember assist being a term used in English football 25 year ago.

1950/60s for me mate, mind you have just reminded me Summerbee would be demented with this style of play he liked to make half a yard and whip in deadly crosses. Our present players need 86 triangles because there isnt a central target to aim for.

I'm not sure when they came in, but I was young enough to still be reading a lot of footy magazines in the 90s and don't remember assists being a thing at that time.

I remember them being counted back then.
As for the "new" terms - duel and transition are important things to consider at the tactical analysis level. Football tactics have come on massively in the last 10-20 years thankfully.
