The Spirit of 37 | Flag renewal campaign

How is he able to get as many tickets as he does , surely he doesn't own 50 season cards . Those who whore their cards for points are helping one fan out but at the expense of another

Aye I don't like this either. I understand letting a mate use your season card but just whoring it out to strangers is selfish.
Current players is a No No. They move on . Not much loyalty in football.

Our history is a round one and it should be on show as often as possible .

Monty. porters kerr Stokoe carter. Buchan gurney clough Jimmy Thorpe. Shack. Bally. Phillips. Quinn. Ashurst. Benno. Rowell . The list of real club legends is endless

Would love a big surfer of the ship badge or local landmarks such as our lighthouses and coast , wearmouth bridge full of fans on way to match , penshaw monument lit up in red n white etc etc

But all of them players moved on as well. I think it's good to have displays including players who are about to play for us.

Ive said it before and I will say it again we need more smaller flags to bring the rest of the bigger flags out, at the minute its just big wide flags with two poles that blends into peoples coats and jackets.

We desperatley need just simple red and white handheld flags to make the end full or it just looks random.

Buchan, Gurney, Carter, Hurley and Monty are the 5 greatest ever players to pull on red and white shirts / the best servants of the club imo.

Have whoever you want after that but they surely deserve their own flags.

Just from my view point. I love the idea of the players more from historic years rather than more recent times getting their own individual flags or similar to show that they’re never forgotten within our history.

Granted many of the younger generation may not know or will bother wanting to know but I guess it’s the older generation option to pass on that knowledge and show who was hear during some of the brilliant years at the club.

I think to get the younger generation involved I’d recommend getting the smaller flags bought on mass to get them to waive them during the game. Gets them involved a lot more. Would be great to see it along the lower bowl from all angles.

Jimmy Thorpe never 'moved on', at least not to another club. He litterally was Sunderland till he died. RIP.

Can we not commission someone like frank styles to make some images of legends for the flags. Rather than just photos?

I’d also prefer so proper football casual flags with mottos on them etc.

I'm a bit late to the party but can see what the lads are trying to do for the younger set of supporters, my you gest lad is 11, has had a season card now 5 or 6 seasons, in that time his favourite players were maja, Gooch,09,stewart, Embo and Patterson all relatable to the kids and a few of them our own, yet not exactly legends and could be gone in months, a tricky one but you guns would be bouncing holding up their heroes

They’re the future and we want them to feel part of the displays, be able to relate to the flags and have summit to be proud of.

If we don’t have anything from the last 20 years it doesn’t say “you can be proud of this club” to me.

Everything and everyone related to wembley last May is something to be proud of, but also not to be forgotten as somewhere we never want to be back to, 2 or 3 from that day would be good imo especially with our own lads playing such a vital role, Embo patto and Neil etc

Raich yes
The rest NO
Especially players who are only here on loan. They're not ours

its 84 years since raich carter last kicked a ball for SAFC.

i totally agree that he should be immortalised in sunderland, but we can spread out a little bit with how the fans of 2023 show their support for the club.

we are nearly at the point where only those over 65 years old can even remember the 73 cup final.

again, i'm not saying we forget about it as a club and fanbase, but its almost showing off how shite we have been for 50 years if we can't find something to be proud of recently

even a big one of that young lad from trafalgar square standing on the fountain. it would give the young fans something to relate to. 'i was there' type of thing. and with an o'nien surfer they will say 'i remember his debut'

Good afternoon everyone,

Thank you to everyone who replied to our thread requesting ideas for new flags for the Roker End. We’ve had some designed and they’ve been posted below.

The aim is to purchase a load of these new designs, renew the stock of current designs (retro strips & badges) which will see us right for the next 5 years.

The current stock has been in use since the 5-4 match v Coventry and is understandably looking tired.

We’ll be getting a load of 2m x 2m (the same as the current ones) plus some huge 5m x 4m ones for the front of the stand.

The fundraising target is £10,000. This is a lot of money, but these don’t come cheap and they will see us doing displays at every home match for the next 5 years at least.

Thank you.

I personally would would like to see a close up image of a bemused given trying to stop Keiran free kick in the derby..one with the ball busting the net.....hardest shot I've ever seen,it was in the net before he kicked it.

I agree mate, current players are a must imo.

We should also have a display tor Diallo at the end of the season as he's been fuckin class.

I agree with something from the modern era is worth a shout.

The instant link for me is the playoff final and that would resonate with everyone personally.

The one of Stewart’s knee slide is from his goal at Wembley.

See above. We’ve got that photo somewhere. We’d have to ask his parents permission like.
