Once played football at cleator moor next to whitehaven. With it been a hour and a half treck us as a team decided to make a day/night of it and stop over. We ended up at workington on the night and i can completely concur with you, Absolute shithole awful place

Played there once, lush pitch, Cumberland turf. Good piss up in the clubhouse afterwards. Very friendly folk, all the local lads were built like prop forwards.

Just checked on Google it was in 1977. They were replaced by Wimbledon.

Maybe mate aye. Played in a housing estate with parked cars for the houses litreally 10 yards away from sideline on one side of the pitch. We beat them 5-0 then had a few at there pub but went to workington on the nihht was like mordor up there, Like the hills have eyes

Never understood people from the north east being critical of West Cumbria - they have a lot in common. Not least the coal mining heritage and subsequent decline under the Tories.
