Sunderland AFC U18s

Is everyone that's been responsible for bringing this lot through the age groups (from scouting, recruitment and coaching) still at the Academy? I know we've lost a few decent people in recent years but I don't really follow from which age groups or departments they are.

I guess what I'm getting at is whether this is a once in a generation crop (even though the lot that Donald sold off were obviously up there too) or whether everything is in place to continue developing this sort of quality year on year?

What is very impressive is their turnaround from last season

The squad is actually smaller this season, but the players they have brought in and kept are doing fantastic.

Good on the lad. Any idea how Harrison Bond is getting on?
I didn’t know to be honest but I’ve seen Kernel has posted. I just stumbled upon the Auckland result on twitter to be honest and remembered he was on loan there. Was a video posted in here where he hadn’t had the greatest night so good to see it looks like he hasn’t let it keep him down.

Here are the highlights. What a lot of talent we have. On those highlights you nothing of Rigg but tremendous performances from Watson, Moore, Fieldson and especially Middlemass who looks top notch. Very encouraging and hopefully some of these lads will be pushing for the first team in a couple of years.

Great highlights. The commentary was pure Jimmy Liddel.

I take it the Middlemass everyone is raving about is the number 11?
If so he looks a player -need to get along and watch them -that is some win 4 nil away at Liverpool -well done to those lads going there and battering them at their academy

He was 8. Tommy Watson is number 11.
He looked very good the number 11-direct running and very involved -team game though so great to see them flying and someone else said no home game for them until after Xmas ?
Is there a particular reason in your opinion as to why we have such a good crop of talent -good to hear from someone who knows about this team ?

Yeah Swansea away in the youth cup next Wednesday, then wolves away the Saturday then looks like Man U away the Wednesday. Then a while without a game before Leeds at home on the 7th jan.

It's good that these lads have remained together. In this age group Hewitson, Francis, and McConnell have left? Might be wrong or more? We are missing a few too whether playing up or injured.

Good mix of players and using 3 age groups of talent (16s, 1st and 2nd), not solely relying on 2nd years. Integrate this way is only good. New coach is well liked I heard too.

Middlemass and Fieldson absolute standouts, fantastic. Great team performance that mind. Hope the powers that be see the presentation of an under 18 game by LFC TV instead of trying to blind me everytime I watch the highlights of our junior teams. Well done to all those involved in creating that team.

@Kernel or @wilberforce do you have any insight on this?

I think each year is different in development, might get a strong few years then a little dry. Some kick on more and then we find some gems in grassroots who come into the system later than others and have no link to our coaches.
Staff wise departments change through phases foundation through to professional development. Replacements look good.
Who knows whether it's a production line or what. That'll be the aim of course. @wilberforce will probably know more than me on this.
