We’ll sing what we want

I'm just wondering that if the reason for everyone not to sing it isn't there would people just move to another reason? Like this.

And does your answer here mean that we must respect every player who requests not to be sung about?

None of this is in any way an argument to sing any particular song. Rather I'm wondering how far we can tell people not to do something with conviction? Racial stereotypes are obvious, but is that it?

You fat bassa is out for keepers then?
It’s a bit gibberish this but are you saying at what point do you stop signing a song about someone who asks you not to sing it?

Would it be fine to sing it it transpired he did in fact have a really big dick?
Fuck sakes. Obviously, the answer is no because the assumption of the chant is based on the stereotype of race. Is this not an easy thing for folk to get?! Gary Bennett was just given an MBE for his involvement in services to anti-racism in football and we're talking on here about a chant directed to a young player ON LOAN to us, which focuses on his nob cos he's black!

England fans sung about Harry Maguires big dick...is that racist or stereotyping
I for one don't think either is racist or stereotyping..just lads demonstrating juvenile behaviour fitting big dick into a song and singing it.
Lots on here offended over juvenile behaviour not racist behaviour
Just my opinion of course having witnessed songs being sung about dicks belonging to both a black and a white player.

So if he had a big dick it would be ok to sing you think?

And I'm not really talking about that chant; It's quite obviously wrong. I'm wondering about how far we go to draw the line on what chants are unacceptable.

The start is to wonder if the chant was not based on a racial stereotype but fact, would it still be wrong? If yes, then would all abuse be wrong...Lee Howey, Rooney shagged a granny, fat bassa. Would all songs that players asked us not to sing have to be respected?

But it is stereotyping, that’s not really up for debate

We used to sing (I assume) the same thing, about Bambo Diaby.

The club asked those responsible to stop, but people still sang it.

Diaby has not played for Barnsley for at least two years. He now plays for Preston. The other week - I think it was at Fleetwood - people were still singing it.

Basically, you can't stop it, because some people are thick, and beyond help. And they make everyone look thick, and beyond help.

sorry to tell you this pal but you thinking it is not racist means fuck all. It is racist, and the sooner our thick fans realise that the better.

Any white fella who claims it is not racist is quite frankly an ignorant freak.

Footy’s gone back to being only for pissed blokes now I reckon.

Not with 12.30 kick offs (or else I'm just not trying hard enough)

I think the overwhelming majority recognise it's racist.

No but he has came out and asked the fans to be more respectful so let’s do it. If you were at work and kept talking to the black bloke in the office about how big his cock was and he asked you to be respectful and not talk about it, would you keep on talking about his cock or would you shut the fuck up?

You're not reading what I'm writing. Of course he should be respected. I never sang it in the first place, instantly seeing the problem with it.

The question I asked was should we respect any player who says please don't sing X? And is all abuse wrong (clearly by asking that I demonstrate I know this song is abusive)

Would you be happy about such a song being sung about you, at your place of work?
Absolutely not. I was questioning how "it's stereotypical but not racist" - hence asking what the song is based on (ie it's not about his height or shoe size but is stereotypically based on his knob size because of his race).

Seems like folk missed my point though 🤦‍♂️.
