That was the reason Broadhead didn't sign wasn't it, he didn't want to be third striker. Listen these aren't my excuses, these are arguments put up defending why we didn't get another striker in the summer by members on here. The club has had 2 whole seasons when another striker could have been signed on a permanent contract by the club. We are now in the position where Stewart and his agent hold all the cards, and when he does go, it leaves us with one Striker on loan and every club alerted to that fact. There are even members on here saying that we would have to sell before we had the money to even bring in a replacement for Stewart, so again the argument that we can just sign somebody and bed them in before he goes doesn't make any sense at all.

Actually, it was Alex Neil who implied that Broadhead didn’t back himself to compete as third choice striker. A different striker, in a different situation may feel differently.

It makes perfect sense by the way, we did it before when Wyke had only six months left. You’re tying yourself in knots trying to be sarcastic about the “third striker” thing and ignoring the reality that we can and have done it before.

If the reports are true in the Swansea newspaper that the club have offered him 100k a month & he has turned it down you can't blame the club
If the player wants to stay he will stay if he wants to go he will go it's nowt the club can do about it
Exactly, so when posters on here saying the club is in control of the situation and that they hold all the cards , then it's simply not true.

So who should we believe, because he fitted in well at Wigan, they only have the 6 strikers in their first team squad. Again this isn't me saying this, this one the excuse on why he didn't sign for us, these are other members on here trying to defend Speakman and using it as an excuse on why we did not bring in a third striker. Again 2 seasons to bring in another Striker on a permanent, we got Defoe and Thompson, one of which was horribly out of form, hardly played then retired before the end of the season, and the other couldn't make the bench when both of our strikers were injured.
Ross Stewart & he's agent hold all the cards.
Exactly

If we can’t compete on wages with other Championship clubs then questions need to be asked about the ownership, We need to be looking to get out of this league and you do that by retaining your best players, not selling them to teams in the same division.

Stewart also needs to have a look at himself and see the bigger picture.

The only way he should go is if someone is offering silly money as a fee.

Broadhead went to Wigan because he got more money simple as that nowt to do about being third striker

Dont agree ,basically he has 18 mths contract left.if he doesnt sign he stays on shit money. Now people will say he wont try in games where will that get him .We should say to him sign the contract and we will consider any future reasonable offer from a club in higher Div.His recent interview he stated he wanted Prem footy hopefully with us.

So you reckon Defoe was a good signing made by Speakman:lol: All the data, the model, the process pointed to Defoe being the answer, absolutely crackers you like if you are trying to back up your argument with that nonsense
where did i say it was a good signing?
i was one of the people on here saying at the time we shouldnt sign him! I got pelters for that as well..

It was Alex Neil who said that was the case. Go ahead and ignore that again if you want, but it’s true.

Defoe was a mistake and probably more to it than we will ever know, Thompson was signed for the bairns team. Another thing some posters refuse to believe.

Can you post the article where he said that, especially the bit when he said with us, thanks I missed that.

Funny how i put on here couple weeks ago that Boro had offered him 20k a week....i got slated. It's in Daily Record now about Boro coming in for him.
We either need to pay him what he wants, keep him and get promoted with him

Or get the best we can, in January or mid season 23/24.

If you read the papers he has been offered top money to stay he has turned it down

I agree it’s not as straight forward as him holding all the cards. Has he done enough to phone it in for 18 months and still get a PL move? I don’t think so.

Better wages in the short term, a platform to raise his profile even further and a choice between staying here as we progress or leaving when a PL club come in for him is a much better prospect than potentially getting dropped and a reputation for downing tools. He also doesn’t seem the type to do that at all.

Deffo said that but it was in the last wk/10 days cant remember what publication it was in though :D you will have to trust a senile oldie. It struck me when the Swans Boro links started ,i thought well the bugger has just said he wants to play in the prem.
