Sunderland will face Saudi Arabian opposition Al Shabab in Friendly (poll in Parsnip)

If you think it's just a game of football, I do hope you eventually wise up.
It's a friendly that no one will care about there'll be barely anyone at the ground and outside of some Sunderland fans no-one will be watching, if this is Saudi's attempt at sportswashing putting together a friendly with some championship club then it's canny desperate!

Already picked up by the mags, local media and it will spread. This is how it works.

Who'd have thought a couple of years back that the mags would be wearing Saudi Arabia colours on their shirt. They have a foothold in English football through the mags which they will exploit.

You are very niave if you think that's the end of it

Aye, with other inept failures.

And they probably like football, just not as much as money and status.
yes i mean in soe cases they like football a bit..just not enough to splash that much cash and effort at it without being rewarded in other ways..
methven may now be finding that running a snmall pr firm and owning a hotel is far more congenial than being in football

Some right fannies amongst our fan base. One was even saying they wish we’d reduce our carbon footprint by having the break closer to home 😂 its a warm weather training camp, its what teams do and were just so happening to be playing a team from Saudi thats also there at the same time.

Fanny claxon. Worst f***ing craic on this board, and to use it here sums up how bad it is. So now it’s not enough people have genuine concerns about the club, when 9 times out of 10 the concerns are warranted, now our fans can’t have concerns about playing football against a team with clear links to a murderous regime?

Based on your logic I bet you’ve not once slated the mags for their association with them?

Agreed, the whole reaction is off the scale. It's completely different. Is it ideal? Probably not. The club should have read the room and thought how about we give this one a miss in fear of upsetting our fans.

Indeed. Proper massive over reaction by some just so that they can still claim the moral high ground over their Newcastle mates.

Everyone will have forgotten about it once the proper football starts again in December.

Over reaction? We have a thread called Sportwashing about our filthy neighbours, which has amassed over 8k posts. They are correctly called out and vilified in that thread for not holding their hands up to the obvious links to the murderous regime.

We organise a friendly with a team with obvious links to the very same murderous regime, and fans being concerned about that are “overreacting”. I’ve seen double standards on here in the past, but this takes the biscuit. Jesus man.

Find my posts in that Newcastle thread and come back to me mate. I won't hold my breath.

And you're now comparing a meaningless friendly with a club being owned and controlled by the Saudi Arabians, and wonder why people talk of an over reaction. Get a grip.

Nobody is saying it's comparable, but it is still wrong, and a step towards the moral low ground that our neighbours occupy.

And it's completely unnecessary, we could easily play someone else, unless of course it really is part of something bigger, which is the real concern.

What does you posting in there have to do with anything. I don’t think I’ve posted in there, doesn’t mean I don’t think they are a disgrace as they are.

It doesn’t matter how big or small the affiliation is, nobody should associate with any sport team or person that has links to the Saudi regime. The team we are playing have blatant and obvious links, a quick google shows they are in bed with and support murderers. To me that’s pathetic, we should not engage with them.

Would you be happy if we arranged a friendly against Russia? They’ve got nowt on for the next few weeks.

Who the fuck makes you the arbiter of what this about, you get a f***ing grip yourself

I’m not sure why Dubai was the chosen destination, there are premierleague clubs heading to Spain, Portugal, Australia etc. There are even 5 or so premierleague clubs heading to Dubai for the break, surely we could have just arranged a friendly with one of those clubs instead? Won’t fork out for netting, but will fly the squad to the Middle East 🧐
