Now is the time.Best get rid of those "No blood on hour hands" stickers then
Is the club affiliated with the state in any way other than geography? If not then I don’t really see the problem, you can’t judge an entire nation by the state of its rulers.
It would be like saying we won’t play LA Galaxy in a friendly because the Supreme Court overturned abortion rights.
I do agree we could have side-stepped the issue by going to Spain and playing Malaga like.
Sod off Mag
Well, it’s hardly the same as clamoring to be owned by the Saudi State is it?Best get rid of those "No blood on hour hands" stickers then
Can't believe that he's still in a job here. How many fuck-ups has he overseen now?Incredible this gets signed off really with how much the club claims to care about the fanbase these days and 'local sunderland fan' Davison looking into things as usual.

They won't pile in as our fans are unhappy with itI haven't looked into the details of this club and what their ties are to the Saudi state. Obviously it doesn't even compare to the situation at Newcastle and any Newcastle fans piling in on this announcement are just exposing the hypocrisy of their own situation
HOWEVER - It is a ridiculous PR own goal and so easily avoidable. We could have set up a friendly with a club from almost any other country in the world given the current publicity around getting in bed with teams/regimes from the Middle East.

The club have taken a decision to play a friendly game, doesn’t really impact our supporters stance at all.
I do think this game is a very last minute one. Apparently we all but agreed a game with Stoke but that has clearly not happened. We could literally play any club in world football with a wc break so why a Saudi team ?
I think we could achieve the same result elsewhere. Some of the reaction is very over the top here mind. Getting some good minutes under the belts of our players just returning from injury.
All for it me.

Nice to see you on a thread other than the NUFC one. Not a surprise to see you’re still taking about them though. Mag.
