Will a wealthy mega billionaire ever put a bid into buying Sunderland?

"Silly rhetoric."🤣

What is silly is trying to justify their purchase of a football club with talk of "interest in developing the area, inward investment etc."

It is purely trying to wash their reputation on the the global stage, to appear above board, and their regime cleansed in the eyes of the rest of the world.

To suggest otherwise is tantamount to supporting their filthy regime.

Nowt silly or rhetorical in there marra.

Aye this. They were sniffing around Liverpool first. To be fair for the price difference in the two clubs they can probably turn the mags into something approaching Liverpool and sell for a larger profit. So financially it probably makes more sense the deal they’ve done. And I think the scousers are more likely to be less than deferential to their dubious owners. They’re quite a militant lot. The mags on the other hand are more than happy to turn over and have their tummy’s tickled and brush anything and everything under the carpet as long as they sign a few players. Don’t think Liverpool would stand for that in the same way at all

It used to be a local businessman who'd done quite well for himself. Then millionaire owners. Then billionaire owners. Now f***ing countries owning clubs.

I'm sick of it all.

That's football these days. I've never felt so disconnected with the game. Unfortunately attendances keep on going up and up so I expect I'm in the minority with those thoughts.

Oh the mags are a militant lot. When it suits.

I agree marra. So you're not totally alone. Feel the game wants to move on from me and my kind of fan, and I am becoming more and more inclined to let it go.

Tbh I stopped going the season before COVID. Been attending since the 1973/74 season, had the same seat on the SoL since it was built but for a mixture of reasons found my interest becoming less and less.

Started going again after we were allowed back into stadiums but just match by match and didn't get the season card back but couldn't fully recapture the buzz. Thought Promotion might have done it for me but I think it's just too deeply ingrained now.

Hopefully football will be reformed so it stops wealthy sugar daddies purchasing success

The financial fair play rules need to close loopholes allowing mega sponsors deals that circumvent the rules in the first place

No.

When you’re talking takeovers by sovereign wealth funds or mega-rich investors, it’s as much about the city and location as it is about the club.

Unfortunately, Sunderland just isn’t a very attractive proposition and there are better options out there.
Just wait til we become the European Hollywood when they build the film studios

What property development opportunities? And how are they only available if the purchased the club?

I'm sure some of them don't, but I bet quite a few do.

Would you really want to watch a team win without it being a battle every week?

Yeah I’d love nothing more than watching my team house the worlds best players and play superb pretty much every week. Who wouldn’t ? Why would you ever want to lose or draw a game ?
Plus the champions league provides the big completion which they Havnt won (yet) !!
Think id rather be a Championship club than have a wealthy owner buy us the PL & CL.

Would you not want though to visit the likes of the nou camp / San Siro to watch your team play ? I’m sorry like but I can’t understand the mentality of not wanting to watch your team at the pinnacle of club football.

Agree. I'm getting to the stage where I'm a bit past doing it now but I would love nothing more than to have been able to travel around Europe in my 20s/30s/40s watching Sunderland play in some amazing cities an stadiums. Even the most obscure places would have been brilliant trips. I used to work with 2 Mags in the 90s and early 2000s who would use all their annual leave following them around Europe. I'll admit to being very jealous at the time!

Can't understand the people on here saying they're happy to be in the Championship forever. I honestly couldn't think of anything worse. We need to be back in the PL for so many reasons.

its not that they are ONLY vailable if they urchased the club BUT....the PR of owning the club makes things like planning perission easier to achive..gives them an in with local policy makers etc..see man city owners making millions from deals there..
why else do you think the rueben brothers are involved at newcastle..for the love of the game?

The Reubens have owned property and land all over the NE for a few years now. Sedgefield race course for instance. Them being involved with the Mags has fuck all to do with property and land. It's simply a smokescreen so the Saudis had a half decent reputation when going for the ODT.

so what do th ruebens get out of it? why would they want to provide a smokescreen for the saudis?
I know the ruebens have interets in newcastle peoroperty..thats why they are in on this..
that and the fact they said for years their low profile generally hurt them as they werent offered deals others were..and tis is a way to raise their profile a bit..

Money. That's what they get out of it. They don't just have property interests in Newcastle. They own land all over the NE including South West Durham (Sedgefield race course) and going into North Yorkshire.

depends what your mindset is
Yea..I would love it in the prem again...I mean as you know, this division is abject, no disrespect to the clubs in it, but crikey!
Ive set meself to watching The Wednesday like a sorta cross between a pantomime and a Greek tragedy, you can actually enjoy it like that..Its takes the right mindset though.
don't focus on the actual game, take in the surroundings, the comments, the bloke next to you trying to gnaw through his own wrists as Accrington Stanley get a 3rd.
its bloody theatre....
I have honestly forgotten why I go...but I can't stop ..cos me Grandad did it, his grandad did it, so for some sort of inherited stupidity ..i have to do it....(also dragged the wife, me son, me grandkids and the daughter in law in)...A Billionaire?..ruin it in my opinion
Sunderland are doing Ok, good crowds, Prems not outta sight in the next few years
You want it all at once?..Like Newcastle?..It breeds a weaker supporter, it thins the inherited tribalism, it simply becomes a "Football match"..who in the name of f.ook wants that?
