Jimmy Montgomery

I've seen him a few times when the U18s have been playing at Evenwood.
He gave my lad a pat on the back after one match. I was chuffed but I had to explain to my son who he is (he's 13 so Monty's playing days were a bit before his time).

Is that you in the avatar ?

Opened against us for the seconds. I had him caught behind.
Bet he chuntered as well😁. He was middle order for the 1st team but could have batted anywhere. Excellent footwork and hand-eye co-ordination. He was regularly out on the lash with the younger players. Different times.

Who did you play for?

I played for Eppleton.

Whitburn was a lovely place to play.

It was. I think we took the Village Ground for granted a bit. Wasn't until I played away from the NE that I realized how much work in the 50s and 60s built the club.

Used to like playing at Eppleton as well. Good hard cricket there and places like Philidelphia and Burnmoor without any chippyness or snobbiness you sometimes got at other clubs.
