Any Sunderland strongholds left ?

Can vouch for that. The influx from Shiney I met at high-school in the 90s predating Keegan was at least 50/50 which was news to me having the lazy assumption the nearer you are to Sunderland/Newcastle the more/less concentrated relevant support would be.
Worked there for years and going of the shirts you'd see it was a just a given that it was 50/50 (and that was during the Ashley era mostly), I didn't bat an eyelid seeing their shirts around e.g.
High school??? Is Shiney in the US?

Give ower, Pensher and Shiney were 80% Sunderland in the 90s, many a night singing SAFC songs in Shiney subbies in the early 90s fuelled on underage White Lighning from Poolys shop opposite South View.

There’s mags there sadly
Remember 2 in Whitefield Crescent and a notable one in Clydesdale who now coaches a team in Sunderland. Pensher Woolies rule!

Knew when I delivered my papers it was the ones who got the Chronicle delivered rather than the Echo. The Prospect and Grey Horse were full on mackem but a few mags frequented the Shoulder Of Mutton and Oddies.

My nephew was always Man Utd daft growing up. Don't know why as we have no link to Manchester at all. Just another fair weather supporter of the era.
Anyway, he's posted pictures of him and the family on holiday and they've all got Newcastle tops on. I've messaged him and he told me he changed a couple of seasons ago and has season tickets at the landfill.
He lives in Shotton.
