The Safety of Fans in the North Stand

Hope you’re right marra, take it you’ve heard something on the grape vine

I have no idea what the clubs plans are, but I’d suggest that “hoping the problem goes away” isn’t cutting it anymore.

Having to pause a game isn’t a good luck and as you know, football is all about optics at boardroom level.
Hoy a net up. If stuff still gets chucked then massively reduce that clubs allocation to the point where it’s impossible to chuck anything far enough to cause harm. If the club with the reduced allocation have a problem they can take it up with the cowards throwing stuff.

Quite why I or any other Sunderland fan should be moved to accommodate away fans acting up is beyond me.

I know a “throw test” was carried out with a pop bottle. 10 rows from the back and it was possible to clear the upper tier and land amongst the fans in the lower. Unless we strung them out along 1 long line in the back row, something more proactive needs to happen.

Just read Burnley's statement there.

If I had hoyed something that had injured an 8 year old child I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror.

Can the council take action if the club refused to?
In the event of an injury, if the club are held responsible as they could be shown to be aware of the risks and not sufficiently controlled for those risks, the Sunderland council’ environmental health team could prosecute both the club and individual employees of the club if they could be held to be responsible.

It would be interesting to know who is legally advising the club’s board and their senior employees as I find their current attitude bizarre to say the least.

I think the club have finally realised something needs done. It should never have taken this long.

Let’s be honest, it was pure luck no one was seriously hurt (or worse) when the glass bottle was thrown during the Coventry game. The club needed to take decisive action then.

Instead, they took the softly softly approach and here we are again, with shit being chucked. With Cardiff next up, who let’s be honest have a sizeable chunk of twats, they now must be getting nervous.

I’m led to believe that they are now looking at moving the away fans but it’s going to be a right pain in the arse.

if this is true, then in the long term it will be one of the shittiest, stupidest things the club have ever done. its just shooting ourselves in the foot. solve one problem and create a whole host of other problems.

put a net up. its simple and effective. the problem goes away with minimal cost and fuss

the sunderland fans who are crying out for the away fans to be moved downstairs are pure fannies in my opinion. screaming out for the club to do ''something''

Yeah it’s true bud. I’m happy for them to stay in the North Stand upper but the club seem to have issues with nets etc.

If they do go into one of the corners, I actually think you will see an increase in trouble both pre and post match

I think they hoped a bit more security would tackle the problem, but sadly not.
Minimum wage security have only one pair of eyes unfortunately mate. Even double of wages you dont get stewards with more eyes.

If some prick wants to launch summit then they've launched it whether spotted afterwards or not.

Eradicate the issue but more stewards is not the answer

100%. If they are anywhere near the south end of the ground then trouble will increase massively outside the ground as that's where the majority of people walk past both before and after the ground.

As it stands, anyone coming from the town or roker to the match and back home will have zero contact with the away fans

Probably the lass who works in the ticket office and also the club shop

I can only think it’ll be somewhere like the NW corner. Surely the club aren’t stupid enough to put them anywhere at the south end?
