The Safety of Fans in the North Stand

Love these threads we should move them from the North stand but not the South stand because I sit there. Someone else has to be moved instead...

It's South Stand or where it is imo. No-where else makes sense especially considering it's the cheapest stand for tickets so the least loyal fans on paper.

The East Stand orange blocks shouldn't be next to the away fans who pay more and some will have been there since the stadium has opened.
😂😂😂 🎣 I hope

Move the away fans to the south stand whilst sorting out the absolute bellendry behaviour from some of the current occupants. Two birds one stone. ;)
I actual like this idea, maybe put safe standing in the north lower to accommodate them as there are few SC holders in there anyhow and then they can stand all they want. they did not cover themselves in glory yesterday considering the posts on here about leaving early, i took a photo 1 minute into half time and the south stand was near empty, i wish i knew how to post the photo all it needs is a tumbleweed rolling over the stand to complete it.

1 minute into half time , do you not think folk will have gone for a piss or even a pint or three ?

eejit.

Ok so you think empty seats looks poor on TV?

Well imagine this

Look North music starts and serious looking Mag news reader intones “Sunderland Football club were today ordered to pay £1.2 million pounds compensation to the family of eight year old Jordan Rogers after he sustained a life changing traumatic brain injury after being hit on the head by a beer bottle thrown from the upper tier of the Sunderland stadium. The judge increased the award as this occurred after a series of similar incidents and it appeared the club had failed to act on the advice of Safety Officers and fans representatives. Nobody at Sunderland was available for comment so we go over now to the Al Qaeda Stadium to discuss the issue of fan safety in football grounds with Amanda Stavely”

That a good look?
Read my post again, I was reminding you of the opinions and views at the time of the lobby to move the away fans.

You are very imaginative with that imagining tho

I’d be very surprised if he hasn’t flagged this. Ultimately he can only advise what should be done, he can’t make it happen.
Therefore he will have no issue when/if questioned about it as its a long standing issue and detailing how the club is progressing in addressing it.

The club as a collective needs to address it. If they don't its only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured and then claims against the club.

My mate the guru of all thing Sunderland says that when the stadium opened there was a movable barrier installed so variable amounts of away fans could be housed and the unused seats could be purchased by the daft lads that are only interested in hurling abuse at the away mob, used to be some atmosphere then
Yes there was, and seats could be removed from or placed in the aisles, probably lost or broken now. Shame, as I like the idea.

Still not as easy as just selling more seats to the away team up there tho.

I just don’t get why we moved them, other than copying the mags. It was fine where it was. Made for a better atmosphere. Shift them back. Fuck the end named by Del Boy and Rodney to gain brownie points with the fans. The north stand could be a monster of a home stand and a least it actually points towards Roker.
I cringe a bit when I see people on here call it the Roker End. I’ve never heard anyone in ‘real life’ call it anything other than the South Stand.

I personally couldn't care less how things look. Who are we looking to impress anyway?
More fans care about how “we” look etc than you might think.
Rightfully proud of our stadium and crowd (as for while we have not had much else)

There was a demand to sort out the pink seats,
Call to tidy up the general appearance of the stadium.
Suggestions of how to deal with the litter on the pitch.
Switch the cameras over to the east stand
etc
“will look better on TV”

The empty seats behind the goal looked poor.

There’s nets at every ground in Europe pretty much and some already in England. Making your points irrelevant.
Regardless of the varying opinions on where they should be housed. The fact of the matter is people are getting hurt. The club need to do something. I agree short term a net would provide the quickest fix. Then the pros and cons of where they are housed can be re addressed later. Whilst they are doing the net they can fix the drains that pisses water out onto the lower seats.

I don't know how possible it would be safety side but if we really have to move the away supporters couldn't we give them the following blocks

L29 - L30 and U32 - U34 in the right of the North Stand / part of the corner.

It's always the quietest part of the stadium in both ways, then if they want additional allocation give them P35 - P38 in the upper tier.

It would fix both the empty seats for fans who don't turn up as they don't have much of the lower tier and who cares about the throwing stuff over the top as the idiots will be pelting their own fans.

But that's not how "we" look? Its obvious at every game on telly who are the away fans

first choice is that the efl step in and give Burnley a massive fine this week.

All clubs should be sent a warning about the behaviour of their fans and the dangers of throwing objects and the fines that could be imposed should they not adhere to the rules.
EFL dont care we are more likely to get a fine for the chants last week.

Ok , but it’s how our ground looked.

And to the passing viewer, or isolated photo, it might not be obvious.

Not sure how old you are, but I was on here then, and I can recall the groundswell on here for moving them due to how crap it looked.

I sometimes miss sitting in the SWC and having that atmosphere with the away fans in the SS.

But its better how it is for now IMO.

1. Not many clubs sell out their allocation so looks shit with a half full SS.

2. When were at it its a much better atmosphere with the entire lower bowl being SAFC.

The club just need to take some responsibilty and sort some netting out.

Nowadays you’ll get 2k plus most weeks in the Championship and PL. Away supports are bigger than 20 years ago.

Also, it’s a good atmosphere only when we’re winning. Need a configuration that’s noisy when losing and drawing.

Does it really matter what the passing viewer thinks? Getting the atmosphere good for those of us who go should over-ride that.
