The Hundred 2022 Match Thread

Far more interested in who won the various Yorkshire leagues today. Good to see an East Riding winner of the NYPL, in Driffield

Was still a good game on prime time BBC though. What cricket needs.
A fairly poor standard game up against PL, F1 and a WWE event in Cardiff. I’ll doubt it’s done anything significant in terms of exposure. Putting the finals on BBC doesn’t really scream confidence in the product either.

Was last yrs final on BBC?

Wimbledon final, 6 Nations, Olympics, all major international football are on BBC. Not sure what your last point is?

The other three events you mention were behind the paywall too so not that relevant for this.

With barely a household name competing in the final and an absolutely shocking track produced by Lords it’s just as well the climax was quite entertaining otherwise that’d have been a total disaster for the competition. The BBC’s coverage and sound quality was also rubbish.

I’ve been willing to give the Hundred a chance. There are some positives to it but if they’re going to stick with it they absolutely have to get it right. It’s too divisive to be a partial success and partial failure.

A WWE event is not a sporting event in all honesty.

To my shame I've watched most of this year's (men's) games with heavy use of the fast forward button and several deleted unwatched games.

The cricket has been terrible. Horrible scratchy messy and low quality to watch.

A mixture of journeymen, fat blokes, kids, limited sloggers and a few star names (though a few of those packed it in after a week) who largely failed to achieve much; delivering desperate cricket.

Most games followed a similar pattern. The top 3-4 decent "batters" (fuck off) whacked a few sixes and fours in the powerplay then everything slowed down as wickets fell because the "batters" didn't have the talent to hit boundaries and the bowlers had the easiest shift they ever did. Wayward bowling not punished. Slower balls rarely picked even though they're every other ball. Free hits swiped at and missed. Scratchy singles for 60 balls straight.

Most first innings setting 150-160, most second innings falling well short. Few close contests.

The odious Currans, performing with typical mediocrity.

Eoin Morgan can stick his floppy hat up his arse.

Plastic brands, plastic fans.

A hateful tournament with no quality or redeeming features. Thank God it's done. A crucial and deciding Test Match and our County Championship to look forward to this month.

Fuck the ECB.

‘Heavily use of the fast forward button’

So you have recorded a ‘hateful tournament’ and then watched them back?

Seems weird hating something so much then watching them back rather than live, don’t know where you found the time tbh.

Fair point, they ended up on series link so i had a few stacked on the box most of August. Just skipped through it, sometimes the first and last couple of bits of each innings whilst bored and looking for something to watch mainly. I didn't watch any of it live at all and I definitely didn't rewatch anything.

The poor quality was part of the appeal... how bad can this possibly get. It wasn't cricket but it had an entertainment factor of sorts. How shit can Jason Roy be... how few balls will the overrated Moeen actually manage to face. Let's watch the obscure obese Irishman waddle to long off chasing after a leading edge.

I also wanted my expectations to be validated and they were. It was shit.

The final was probably the worst cricket but the closest result.

It’s just the same standard as T20 blast, possibly better as some players in the blast not good enough to make the teams in this competition

Samit Patel player of the tournament for me.

So that's it for another year. Another £20+ million sucked out of the sport, another test summer ruined and championship season destroyed. Attendances down in the Blast and the One Day Cup, a step closer to bankrupting those shitty counties that have propped the game up for 100 years All going to plan. Same time next year folks? Can't wait.
