The Hundred 2022 Match Thread

Yes, they've had such a competition for the last 20 years. Glad you've recognised the point.
Not so sure about the necessity of overseas players. They rarely enhance greatly to justify their salaries if you study their figures. Having England players available would be the ideal.
I have never disagreed with that point, in fact over the years on this very forum, I was the one praising T20 to the hilt while others had a go at it, so of course I recognize that point, the entertainment on show in it, and the way it has evolved and enhanced the cricketing skills has been great to watch imo.

T20 is a brilliant game as IPL and The blast has shown.

Having both England players and the best overseas players available in one window would be fantastic, because as long as I can ever remember fans like watching the best against the best.

The calendar has got so complicated and messed up.

Can only repeat for me this debate is not about the hundred but about having a well promoted, all players available, designated window for a short format cricket competition.

The hundred is actually failing in the aspect for me because the best players both England and overseas have not been available and that is very disappointing.

Yeh, and we all know what complicated and messed up the fixture list. As I said the best overseas players can cherry pick the short format competition, what's left doesn't enhance our competition so do without the unnecessary expense.

Harmi is a much more mature and articulate, never imagined I'd use that word to describe him, pundit than he was a player.
(FT)ECB's role should not be lead cricket but to organise in the manner decreed by its members i.e. the counties. It's the counties own fault that they have been allowed to assume such a dictatorial role. Let's hope the incoming chair can restore the members' power.

Surely it’ll go eventually. The first year it was different so people watched. They realised it was shite and so the numbers have significantly dropped. You’d imagine they’ll continue to drop. I do watch it, when there’s nowt else on. I’d never attend a game though. The forced commentary is mightily cringeworthy like. KP the other night was describing how the young, adults and elderly were up dancing enjoying it. Apparently they must hate the blast and test match cricket

I feel that the success or failure of the hundred is being conspicuously ignored in reporting.

You'd think attendances and viewing figures of a new tournament would be quite a big news topic but it's all very quiet.

Looking forward to tonight and tomorrow’s games, should be a good end to a bit of a dull tournament.
Yeah still got my bet riding on Manchester from the start so will certainly be cheering them on

Yeah can see that, just think no reason why in a country such as England our short format (one competition) should not be bigger than any other countries bar India.

And as such attract all the top and domestic players in the world to it.

Well I’m taking this rival very seriously, sort of like the Middlesbrough and you are the Sunderland of the “Tyne-Wear derby”.

I’ve got a whopping potential £38 riding on this Hundred.
I have tenner on Manchester at 7/1.

Good luck mate

Yeah happy to be the Sunderland :D

I don't know the stats but I'd guess Australia has higher participation levels in cricket. It certainly gets a lot of mainstream and FTA promotion here

Nothing in one day domestic cricket has any substance. There is no continuity of competition, no ordered end of season climax and certainly no idea of who plays for who. There is no consistent timetable of games from one season to the next. There is a bewildering set of rules and everything in a gane that if is simply not cricket. I am out.

I may have watched a little bit if the graphics, presentation and representation Of cricket had vaguely resembled a sporting contest rather than a kindergarten of fireworks and a noisy kids disco.
I watched a little bit last year but this complete calamity of a cricket match played by a lot of Johnny no names had no appeal and will never have any for me personally
