The Hundred 2022 Match Thread

How come each team plays 8 group games when there are only 7 opponents for each team?

Obviously haven't watched any of this bullshit but I have been quite amused tonight. As usual when a game finishes the bulletins start to pop up all over news feeds and sports apps, and tonight they're all showing photos of that global superstar and legendary all time great.... Samit Patel.

 He wasn't on any of the promotional material pre tournament!

That's cricket all over for me, the nature of short format cricket is such that throws up random players all the time. Three big shots or three good balls and anyone could be player of the match.

Another point I didn't learn until yesterday is that it's an unbalanced schedule with two games versus the 'rivals'* and one against everyone else. More is more is more, I suppose.

*Obviously with this manufactured farce there are no rivals, despite what the marketing department have spent millions trying to create. Manchester v 'Northern' is not and will never be a Roses match.

They need to work on that structure imo, maybe a world cup style group stage and knock out stages.

The “rivals” thing is a bit naff.

Enjoy it nonetheless, and makes me starving for crisps.

Div 1 of the top red ball comp in the country is also unbalanced in the same way.

In 5/10 years they probably will be rivals too, as much as the likes of you and me won’t recognise it.

Yes, they've dicked around with the CC so much it's now a complete mess. It whiffs a bit that you'd do something like this on purpose at the start of a new competition.

They won't, you can't just manufacture rivalries. You're not going to get Brummies wandering round saying how much they hate those Trent bastards, or people from Hove making up chants about Robert Croft.

But you don’t get those last couple things in the T20 Blast either cos they aren’t in the cricket culture (mebbes the Roses the exception).

To a lot of young Aussies and Indians the IPL and BBL franchises are now the proper teams and the same will happen over here.
