Football Insider say it's Mowbray.

We've got quite an exciting squad with young talent looking to be moulded into a strong unit, and this just feels like a step backwards. Football is changing and we can see relatively unknown up and coming managers now doing well and playing good football.

It feels like hardly any time has passed and we're already looking at TM who is, with respect, the previous generation of football not where it is heading.

I suppose it always boils down to results, but I've loved how we are trying to play our football recently and I really hoped the next manager would be in that ilk. Oh well, just have to wait and see of course.
Eh? I dont understand this, he took one of the youngest squads in the championship last season to 8th. How is he a previous generation of manager?

That other poster makes some valid complaints, but it is not balanced - it makes it sound like TM was awful for us, he really wasn't overall. I definitely think it was the right time for a change and a new direction but he did do a lot of good for us. THere are negatives, of course, which grate after 5 or so seasons. Only one season would I say our football was boring. When he decided to try and boss possession for possessions sake. Having the ball but going nowhere with it. Fortunately, he ditched that style the following season and the football was much better for it.
You are wasting your time on some mate. They have seen the 1 negative post from a boro or Blackburn fan and it fits the narrative so will be clung on to.

Always extremes . There is a middle ground
I agree, but I can't tell where it is. I think there's a chance that we're getting there with the current strategy that the club is using though. Time alone will tell, although I’ve been waiting for 70 years 🤣🤣

I think its probably from the games we've played so far against decent sides who, if we'd had strength coming from the bench could have still been unbeaten
Agree We’ve played well but like you say we don’t have the strength in depth, which is why in my opinion talk of a play off push is nonsense. We need to add quality and that’s not going to happen overnight unfortunately

I’m partly in line with this, but also mixed with I really don’t care very much any more. You would think under TM, we probably shouldn’t get relegated this season.

Three days ago though, I thought we were genuinely going to challenge for promotion. It’s a canny come down.
We weren't going to challenge for promotion.

Squad was too thin. Our first XI can mix it with the best and we have spirit. But it's a long, hard slog of a season. We were set for mid table.

I think Alex Neil to Mowbray is probably worth about 5 league places. So I reckon we'll finish about 14th, 15th now.

And you know what: that's ok. Honestly. The wheels could really come off after something like that snake did to us on Friday. But with Mowbray, they probably won't. So yeah, I'd be annoyed with 14th, 15th on Friday. We looked set for better. But it's a massive blow and we need to focus on consolidating now. I am well behind a risk averse appointment. We can't go down again. Regroup in the summer.

Now, we need some players.

There hasn’t been a great deal of dignity shown by Mowbray towards SAFC in the past mind.

I think this appointment is poor. Lots of others do for football reasons too (some will get nastily personal which is obviously unreasonable). We’re being sold a vision about modernity, youth, development and long termism. Mowbray has quite a dour persona, has not spoken kindly of the club in the past, has a pretty mediocre record and has not been liked as a manager by most clubs he’s been at (despite him being loved as a player at Boro and Celtic).

Does the appointment feel brave and optimistic? Does it feel ambitious? Does is it feel fresh and well researched? Does it feel as though it’s imaginative? Does it seem well researched and data driven? To me, the answer is no to all of the above and that’s a bit of a let down give what the supposed vision of the club is. Mowbray is local, available, and friends with Harvey. It feels every bit like an appointment the old regime would have made.

It feels very flat to me
Brilliant post. Echos my feelings far better than I'm able to.

Where do you want to go this season - genuine question?
I’m quite happy for us to have a mid-table finish, with signs of improvement going forward, and I think Mowbray can deliver this.
Top six - the championship is a money pit. I think we spent a lot more than people think all those undisclosed are probably higher than we think and as we were going 3.5 on the french lad and we were signing a brighton lad we will get more in. With 5 subs you need 22 players that can actually play

Eh? I dont understand this, he took one of the youngest squads in the championship last season to 8th. How is he a previous generation of manager?
Just because he's been in the game for so long and Blackburn were very happy for him to not be around any longer.

He'd got them to 2nd apparently then only won a handful of games after that where they dropped back to 8th. Sounds a bit like our other recent manager.

Youre right, we're not. But we need to progress and develop. We're not doing that with him in charge. Huge impact on mood of support too which will shouldn't be ignored seen as season ticket sales makes up the bulk of our revenue.
The mood of the fans will be governed by results first and foremost. If we win 40% of our games under Mowbray (his career average) this season then the fans will be happy enough.

That’s the biggest issue imo. Some have seen us compete well first few games and have now decided a season of consolidation and safety isn’t enough. Promoted sides often start well and fade away, people are getting way ahead of
Themselves talking of promotion this year.
Rotherham are ahead of us. People are going on silly.
