Apparently Capello had told bent a move would help him with an England place, so at least Bent had a bit of an excuse rather than just the money.

And he was offered silly money. Whilst I dont doubt Stoke offered him more than us, they have their own financial restrictions, so I don't reckon it would have been a Bent to Villa kind of increase

Absolutely. Stinks of needing a salary from anyone 6 months ago. Got us. Did well. Jumps ship for higher salary. No one can tell me its a football reason. 38k for home games, sold out away ends. Stoke had more empty seats than fans.

It's not meaningless.

It means that a manager can't leave without a contractual breach which means there would be a remedy for the breach which might mean the manager doesn't leave.

Contracts, even in football management, are definitely not meaningless. I accept that a super rich club where money is no object can take any manager they want and pay the price, but this is Stoke City, a fellow championship club close to breaking FFP regulations.

Obviously if he doesn't want to sign a long term contract, then there's nothing the club can do about it. Do you think that's what happened at Sunderland?

I reckon a long term contract at the going championship rate would have been accepted. Obviously I wasn't involved in discussions though.

Do people still think Darren Bent was at fault for that?

The club fucked him about, accepted an offer for him and then told him to hand a transfer request in when he was down in Birmingham so that they'd get the deal done.
