Pure speculation obviously but don't believe this has out to do with anything football related. Purely down to it suiting him better from a personal point of view. Wouldn't surprise me Neil already had this sorted on a gentleman's agreement with the club if one came in that suited him better. The contract situation has always been a bit strange
It'll be money related. Football is a fickle sport, especially with managers. They'll have offered him more and the club will have said go talk to them. In many ways you can't blame him really.

Think its probably quite simple:

More money
More security
Probably bonuses
Probably pay out clause if sacked
Can live with his wife and kids

I'd do the same in his position. Club should've been able to avoid the first four points being an issue.
Club could have avoided all of this by giving him a nice long contract at the going rate.

We need another CB, central midfielder or 2 and a forward.

We are by all accounts getting another CB, and are in for another midfielder, if not two. It's not a small squad. Yes, there are players in there who aren't good enough for regular Championship football, but then that's the reality of managing a promoted club.
I don't think it's anything more than Stoke are offering him more money.

Probably. He is a short-term boost type of manager, so it is definitely possible that he wanted us to spend big and go for promotion while we carried the momentum from last season. At the same time, that says to me that he didn't really get what we're trying to do as a club, so this might be for the best long-term. Still gutted he's going mind.

Only thing i can think of is that he wanted more proven players instead of the prospects we have been signing in line with our transfer policy. He knew what he was signing up for when he joined us so if he has suddenly changed his mind then he can fuck off.
Or he’s thought to himself if we get 3-4 decent players in we’re in with a shout of doing something and the board have other thoughts.

Clubs rotten man. The events of promotion plastered it over

It’s a complete disgrace on Neil’s part, timing horrendous, looks to me like he has been looking for the first club in that geographical area to need a manager and then jump ship without a thought for anyone but himself , the 12 month rolling contact clearly suited his plan and we were just a paypacket

He got us up and we will be ok.

We just need to get the replacement right and will now be looking at a better calibre of manager than we were before.
