Work electric car schemes

You'd struggle to get an fossil fuel burner with equivalent spec for that price. I walked past a garage yesterday and a Yaris was £16k.
I agree but I think I will move to a second hand with not much mileage if I ever got one.

there are no charging points where I live currently

Either that or they’re recovering the money spent on research? It’s pretty standard for new tech to be expensive until it becomes mainstream.

I don’t see it as either, but certainly both. If you look at the direction of the market, then if they don’t invest in electrification and battery tech, then their future business model very quickly becomes defunct. They must invest. Ergo, higher pricing is a form of profiteering which is also based on pricing structures of all suppliers in the market.

Considered it. Lead time was too long to do it at the time it was launched, and you seem to be quite tied in to not leaving to go work somewhere else to get the value from it. Swerved it this time, but might for my next car.

All of my colleagues at the HQ in Germany have Tesla Model S’s. Unfortunately as I’m based in the UK I get an allowance which is nowhere near enough to lease or buy one of these (they obviously get a bulk discount) therefore I’m sticking with my 245bhp pollution mobile for now.

Champion . Cheaper oil burners on the market.
I'll get a great deal on my next one.👍

Problem is tax revenue will fall as people increasingly buy electric therefore govt will shift more tax on to diesel and you will be paying even more of a fortune to fill it up. Mind electricity is going to be unaffordable too shortly 😀

Anyone heard anything about BIK for April 2025 onwards?

I spoke to the lease company and they said they had no idea what BIK would be after April 2025 but if you lease a car, you’re tied in to whatever the BIK rises to, they can’t guarantee a low rate for existing contracts.

So I’ve cancelled the car I had on order as if BIK shoots up (who knows who will be in govt then) I’d be fucked.

They do mostly three year deals tho, which is going to be problematic.

I’ve not heard anything but I would imagine they will raise it gradually rather than whack it right up. The arse would drop out of the electric car market if they hammered them.

I thought that but I saw a news release about the Netherlands going back up to normal rates without gradually increasing, which concerned me

Tbh I think I’ll sack it off and get a cheaper car on a shorter deal as if the payment went to day, £700 I would be fucked

I’m starting the job which provides this scheme next week and will probably go for a Taycan.

My understanding is that it’s fully inclusive of servicing, insurance etc?

How do penalty points on license affect it? Just like normal insurance?

Also, are you able to add extras on to the car like you would buying new?

Ty

Car manufacturers see EV as the Emperor’s new clothes. A justification to hike prices.
It doesn’t make them appealing though.
It would be interesting to see real figures not based around some knacker that used to run a M3 or similar with a BIK scenario.

Jesus. I got a quote on one of them for a laugh and it was about £900

The rest of your questions…it all depends on the employer scheme.

On mine you can have add-ons unless the car is on special offer, batch order etc.

On mine they will refuse to insure or give you a very high excess for things like points, etc. I was refused insurance on a Model 3 as I was deemed too young to insure on such a vehicle

I expected to be around 900 - 1000.

Was that just for the base model?

@Frijj you’ll be waiting for the Autumn budget for 2025 BIK rates. You’ll not get anything before then. It will be what it will be but definitely get your next car with the fact they will rise again.

@Wonderbra its all down to the scheme.

Ah of course. Tbh I can wait I don’t need to order until November. Polestar 2 I reckon. Teslas getting all too pricey rn.

It’s all well and good giving women a business card that says accountant from the window of a Tesla, but I’d also like to be able to afford to eat.

What’s your opinion on the forward EV vs ICE market?

I’m increasingly of the belief that EV isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Massive problems with raw materials, mining, chip labour and then there’s the charging infrastructure.

Diesel is the best option overall, but I’m conscious that a new purchase (in the next six months) may just haemorrhage cash very quickly.

Poley 2 is nice.

Wait for the Polestar O2.

I’ve gone the lease route to get round this short term, plus we have a decent lease scheme on Volvo and Merc. The next three years will see how committed the government are to their infrastructure strategy as well as some cheaper EV models coming on the market. We’ll also start to see how fuel prices are going to fair.

Electric has to be the way to go (I’m still not convinced by the actual environmental benefits of EV) purely because the new car landscape and used car forecourts will become overrun with EVs and they will start to limit choice. I think you’ve got a three year window before people on 3/5 year purchase cycles start to change. Some cheap diesels will start to flood the market.

I’m going diesel next.
