Eckersley finished?

Ageing cricketer released and replaced by very talented, young academy product. Is this not how it should be?

Did you get Comical Ali to write that spin?

1. He's only 33 not 'ageing'
2. Aside from his wicket keeping, he is a decent middle order batsman and could be picked on that alone
3. Leaves us with one wicket keeper in the middle of the season having released Poynter, not renewed Bancroft and Bedingham injured. Who keeps if Mackintosh gets injured, selected for Scotland etc?
4. Your post is a blatant false dichotomy fallacy as both Eckersley and Mackintosh could play in the same team

I agree with most of that tbh I was being a bit mischievous. However Mackintosh should be our number one wicketkeeper and it’s a sad reflection on Durham if eckersley is playing as a specialist batsman. Also if mackintodh gets injured the sky isn’t going to fall in the county circuit is full of keepers you can get on a temporary loan. The biggest issue is wider problem of players not being happy.

He wasn’t released. He quit!
Semantics. It would have to have been mutual. Durham could have held him to his contract.
It's possible of course that there is agreement for a recall if the situation arises but seeing as the club tell members nowt...

This is the bigger issue to me.

Also based on his second xi scores I find it alot more believable than jf and ne fell out first causing mack to get the nod then them falling out because mack got the nod
Robinson coming in and taking the gloves off Ned wouldn't have sat well with Ned.
Been several player bust ups with Franklin I've heard from reliable sources.

When it comes to Jack Campbell, the lad was a student, playing for the Uni and also on Durham's book learning a cricketer's trade and that's it.
He is a deep south Southerner, he has no relationship with the North East. He was just another student visitor, one of thousands of middle class boys who came for a few years to a top University and then returned home afterwards.
It seems a straightforward story to me.

Robinson is an excellent player. As much as I really rate Mackintosh, you can’t have an 18/19 year old under that much pressure being your main WK across all three formats. He hits a rough patch and it could ruin him.

I just didn't see it with Robinson to be honest averaged 18.83 with the bat, I still find it strange we signed him whilst playing Eckersley as an outfield player.

As for Mackintosh I honestly believe he's the real deal at almost 20 year old, and personally feel he would be wasted in 2nd XI cricket, he looks at home in red and white ball 1st team cricket. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the plans are.

That seems fair enough. But was he actually contracted as a professional cricketer with Durham?

It's definitely not straight forward. He disliked the coach so much he asked for his contract to be ripped up so he could look for a county elsewhere. Not many lads who are 22yo would take that risk given it was his first professional contract.
