The Hundred 2022 Match Thread

Exactly it’s because we have done it half arsed.

We needed one top quality short format at a time that exposes it to the biggest audience possible.

At that the same time we needed cricket fans to embrace short format cricket and that it is both popular, highly skilled and here to stay.

By doing that it would give other cricket more time in the calendar.
Can’t argue with this at all. I’m all in if the 100 or the t20 is played at all grounds

more and more it looks like the fifty over is going to be the one dropped. I don’t believe for a moment that other top stars are not talking about that from all over the world

so if it goes, we then organise the cc properly, with either the t20 played early and the 100 in august or vice versa

say it went like this. May t20, then finals day first week in June. april cc , then break until early June, then July games, august the 100 finals day last week of august. Then the cc plays out beginning of September

Do you have any concerns that white ball cricket will result in a reduction in red ball cricket which was the point I was making?
Yes that’s why I think they should be only one short format competition to leave more space for red ball cricket and get the balance right.

But at the same time I believe cricket needs to evolve to attract kids for the longevity of the game with all other interests about.

That’s why whatever short format there is needs to be in the school holidays to attract that audience.

People need to be realistic imo, the county championship this season has seen several teams draw half of their games with no chance of a result in many games.

Personally I think that’s nothing short of horrendous entertainment which is what sport is all about imo.

If more of that was in August for example that is simply not going to attract new kids into the game.

To me the argument has never been about ‘The Hundred’ or ‘ The Blast’ is more about people accepting that short formats are here to stay embracing them but trying to get the right balance between red and white ball cricket.
‘At last’?! I’ve been calling for the Blast to be in the school holidays for the entire time I’ve been on this board 🤷‍♂️

Who?
Unbelievable!!

I must have imagined all them debates we had well before ‘ the hundred was even thought off, when I was saying how great T20 cricket was ,how enjoyable and entertaining it was and needs to be at embraced and accepted to attract new blood.

While you were saying it was “not proper cricket’ ‘ hit and giggle’ cricket etc etc.

Christ I even remember you saying you hated it because it wasn’t played in whites, such was your old outdated views on it.

You not seriously saying you were all for it and always wanted it in peak season??

Surely not?

The best thing to come out of ‘ The Hundred’ actually is the praise ‘ The Blast’ gets from the likes of yourself after years and years of criticizing T20 cricket!!

Agree with most of this. Opinions that the Blast should have been played in August a definite yes from me. The ECB could have easily done what they are doing with the 100. Mass promotion, terrestrial TV exposure etc. It would have worked and most cricket fans or newbies could be within reasonable distance of a cricket ground.

I would still have liked a couple of CC games in August fitted somewhere in there but if they left the CC alone I could live with it if they didn't have games in August.

I agree red ball cricket has been dire this season especially at the Riverside but hopefully this is a one off season.

I also think the 50 overs will become a straight knockout format like the days of the Gilette/Natwest with minor counties playing in the first round. I suppose it's better than nothing but it's not great.

I'm all for balance between red and white ball but the ECB are hell bent on white ball overload.

Yeah I agree with all that mate, this two short format competitions is too much and unsustainable.

I do think as well rightly or wrongly 50 over cricket is on the decline worldwide so it’s certainly not just the ECB’s fault to blame for that as much as people keeping saying that.

But two short format competitions certainly don’t help it

Looks like Harry Kane padded up and looking like he is going to try and score a six
.

nasser is donning keeper gloves. Alert all hospitals fracture clinics

I always feel Harry Kane has a blocked nose when he talks

thats looks a road from helmet cam

so I will go for 157 minimum
Harry Kane getting a game like
He played a game with Matt Doherty of spurs pre match, trying to hit a boundary. Neither did but thankfully Nasser survived as wicket keeper with no fractures

Morgan at the crease after Maxwell goes.

crawley playing ok mind. 23 off 21 so far. Again buttler is fielding whilst salt is WK
