The Hundred 2022 Match Thread

Let’s invent a new concept to attract young audience families and children to increase participation in the game of cricket.

But guys don’t be enthusiastic about it, don’t promote it, don’t make out that cricket is fun and exciting.

Just tell these new people it is terrible!!
Let's spend years pretending that we can't attract young audience families and children to increase participation in the game of cricket, let's also lie about the popularity of the game amongst broadcasters. Then let's invent a concept nobody wants and nobody else plays, and that excludes half the country, and let's pour every penny the sport has ever earned into promoting it. And then let's abandon the format that had the whole country gripped in 2019. And also let's destroy the tournament that provides the players for the test side.

As long as everyone always pretends that everything is superb, it'll catch on eventually. And if it doesn't, so what? The game of cricket can start again on it's own.

I do wonder why you keep misrepresenting everyone else's position about fans enjoying cricket. Is it because you know how much damage the 16.4 is doing, but can't admit it?

There is of course some good points in there that I will not deny and can see your point.

Particularly not including all the country

But it was inevitable once this happened that pundits were going to over enthusiastic about it and is a good thing to be over enthusiastic about cricket when you attracting a new audience.

I would have thought that was obvious.

It doesn’t bother me in the slightest when I know pundit’s commenting on the game that there clearly going over the top about a certain incident in a game as know what they trying to do.

I also find it very interesting when our test side was struggling, all the criticism that came the way of the short formats.

Now when the test side over the last 4 games has been brilliant by playing positive cricket using some of the skills developed in the short formats it’s gone a better quiet on that front.

Having a day off today. Think the oval team will win though. I can’t see the Welsh team doing much in this comp

Especially these 10 year old impressionable child’s ,don’t get excited whatever you do, as kids don’t like fun and excitement!

They could have improved T20 instead.

Now we have an extra competition that has resulted in an oversqueezed domestic calendar.

When there are too many competitions something has to give and the worry is that the CC and the 50 overs wil be slashed. Strauss and his High Performance Smurfs are already working on this.

This is the first season since 1944 that there has been no First Class cricket in England in August.

I think we all agree (including myself) that there was no need to change the T20 format.

However that ship has sailed and yes I agree as said several times there should be just one short format competition as calendar squeezed.

However think that should be at this time, this window in the school holidays.

And think it’s great a short format of cricket on every day in the school holidays.

Your last point bit of a red herring tbh imo, as there is top quality cricketers on show throughout August whatever it may be officially classed as.

Perhaps it's all an ECB master plan....get loads of families and a new spectator base following the hundred, announce next season it's being renamed and remodelled as the 120 blast and expanded to 18 franchises to give everyone more opportunity to watch. Drop the T20 blast........ Jobs a good un. ECB can claim the 100 was such a success they decided to make it a bigger and better competition

Aye, over about 40 years of watching cricket I have seen plenty of times cameras panning the ground showing people asleep watching cricket!!

Now we have fans complaining about pundits and fans get over excited about cricket!!
Suppose I am becoming a dinosaur. I remember tyne tees even showing minor counties matches back in the early seventies without a crowd in sight.

Meanwhile the real welsh team, with the best welsh players in the game still playing for them, are off to a perfect start in the one day cup

I've still yet to watch more than 10 balls of a game of this.

I think some of you are doing this wrong protesting it. Very easy to just ignore it like.

Mind I don't really watch the blast much either.

I'm sure Llyod Carlson and Salter are the only Welshman they have in any squad.
Lloyd was clearly picked as the token Welshman for Welsh fire last time.

Obviously not bothered this year

We didn’t need a new concept, the wheel didn’t need reinventing.

Cricket’s very own Brexit??! :o

It hasn’t, it’s still in the harbour, being intentionally left to rot.

Nah, April sounds the best if we have to have it at all -

We can have the Blast back in the school holidays.

Only in this Country could we have two short form tournaments and have them both be proper mediocre

Should just have one short format competition during the season in the school holidays, a full window designated to it and all players available.

Either competition is fine with me as long as only one of them, and as long as many kids as possible are exposed to it.

I am really pleased you suggesting ‘the blast’ be played in the school holidays.

It seems at last you happy for a T20 competition to be exposed at a popular time for kids to watch and to have pride and place in a season to attract new blood.

I'm off to Lords tonight to see London Originals vs Manchester Originals. Biggest hypocrite going (i hate the hundred) but our lass (no) hates cricket so gonna see whether it does what it's supposed to do and gets people interested in the sport.

Exactly it’s because we have done it half arsed.

We needed one top quality short format at a time that exposes it to the biggest audience possible.

At that the same time we needed cricket fans to embrace short format cricket and that it is both popular, highly skilled and here to stay.

By doing that it would give other cricket more time in the calendar.

Do you have any concerns that white ball cricket will result in a reduction in red ball cricket which was the point I was making?
