Members Forum - Tuesday

I don’t know if any of the players read this but, just in case, I’d like them to know that we are right behind them. They have our whole hearted support and we realise what a tough season they are having and some of the reasons for it. We also understand that the current head coach’s approach is not necessarily conducive to team spirit and performance and hope that the situation is resolved very soon.

He certainly was.
His answer was poor. "We picked the best side"   . He wants sacking for that comment alone if be really believes that. He totally contradicted himself about wanting to give youth a chance and his excuses about injuries/England calls ups.... Does he not think it happens to other teams?? Maybe stop selecting the same shite every game....

100% behind the players.

Franklin was noticeably uncomfortable answering the question I posed to him. I think they're fully aware of the discontent amongst members/social media comments hence this hastily arranged forum. I just wasn't convinced with the answer he gave me, just seemed out his depth with it.
I take it that Marty wasn't chairing and it was just a Q and A session. Franklin was distinctly nervous when last interviewed by Marty,I think after the final T20 game.
Any comment on Ned's situation?
The club accounts to September 2021 are available from Companies House and confirm N's 60% claim. The anomaly is, though, that that they also reveal a operating profit of £1m?
Thanks for your detailed minutes of the forum. Many there?

I asked Marty at the weekend and he knew nothing about it and wasn't asked. It was David Jackson who works for the club who introduced and two media lads floor walking. Just my opinion but I've said before that Marty seems to be off the fence more this season... I think the club have taken social media criticisms on board (I've had my say) and have hastily arranged this forum tonight as in previous regimes they were pre arranged yonks in advance. I'd say about 50 people. The club I feel have underestimated how folk feel at the moment. I'll give North some credit I thought he answered well on the whole but Franklin is what I expected tonight and his answer to my T20/Give youth a chance question(s) just fill me with absolutely no confidence with him as Lead Coach.

Marcus North speaking well. Franklin is out his depth

"It didn't work out"
Durham get 1.3m from The Hundred. The 8 teams who host get more
North says Hundred is a tremendous standard of cricket what he observed last year and his family were hooked by it.
North says Hundred will be here to stay. No hiding from that.
North says all players want to play in the 100
Got to make sure red ball is best it can be
North said all players in the dressing room love test cricket.
Young players money is very important
Durham 60% at what their salary cap is
North felt with the challenges over the last month, a lot of members forums the club don't spend enough time answering questions. North says he's enjoyed it tonight.
Can we not afford to max out the salary cap?

I feel like these two statements are a contradiction

I feel like these two statements are a contradiction
3 wins in 14 suggests the players selected aren't in fact "the best side" and they are failing. That said I am still fully behind the players hence I attended all home games apart from one which whilst on holiday I was still refreshing the score. Ironically some of the players I speak to openly said what was served up wasn't great yet our head coach was just full of excuses and claiming he picked the best side every game. Blame lies with the coach. The whole season has been shite but I'll keep attending and getting behind the players some of whom have massively under achieved this season. They never hide unlike the head coach

I agree with most of what you say whed and you know I'm no great fan of Franklin but let's be fair he's not going to say anything too critical of the players and rightly so. The senior players HAVE underperformed and the sides picked should have been better than a load of untested kids.

It's unrealistic to expect our overseas pros to be dropped for academy lads, as much as I'd play Dickson ahead of maddinson in this game, it's just not going to happen

You can't then try and portray they are keen for youth development when lads are getting dropped for scoring well in the first team then 180 in the seconds. Likewise I don't buy into his statement that he was picking the best side for the T20 and his statement saying it will be good for the young lads to be part of the T20 squad when i said having them carrying drinks all comp doesn't help.... Having them playing NEPL would be better but the club kept pulling them out, at times at the very last minute. He's an absolute charlatan. I don't expect him to be too critical but let's not try and patronise suggesting he was picking the best team  . We won 3 games in 14 and and our head coach suggests he was picking the best team... If he believes that then he needs to be sacked now. I wonder how the young lads carrying the drinks would feel hearing those comments when they're getting pulled out of games. He answered the questions exactly how I thought he would. He reminds me a lot like Steve Bruce

And why have they under performed? Could it be lack of support from the head coach? You’ve read how unimpressive he was tonight. Does his performance suggest that he has the qualities needed to inspire the guys to better things? He just hasn’t got what it takes. We’ve seen from McCullum what a difference a coach can make on the changing room.

There is absolutely no chance he is inspiring anyone. His record speaks for itself and he seems to think we are the only side who get England call ups and injuries. That's when you have to earn your crust and selecting the same failing side every game as seen in the T20 just isn't the answer and in my opinion highlights a coach who is out his depth and has absolutely no faith in youth. Like I've said he reminds me of Steve Bruce.

Wouldn't agree,is it not just semantics?. Performances of some have been shite but not through lack of effort. There's a lack of a game plan and tactics, a lack of motivation. That saps away at confidence; it's the role of the coach to remedy those shortcomings. An authoritive coach will drop an underperforming overseas player, publically he'll give the reason as injury. Problem is,as North alluded to on the salary bill, we're clearly operating at the bottom end of the market for this category so I wouldn't blame Franklin for that.
Judging by his performance this evening, I don't know how he can continue in the role.

"it's the role of the coach to remedy those shortcoming" - this is where he has a massive issue hence be reminds me of Steve Bruce. He just looks for excuses instead of solutions/try alternatives. The T20 campaign he didn't even want to try alternatives. I can't fault the players overall for effort though but I stand by my view overall this season has been very poor to watch so far. The lack of a plan/forward thinking/different tactics/trying different team selections/batting lineups keeps me firmly in the view that this fella isn't the answer for this club and I believe his record backs up my view.

We might easily be the only side in England that have injuries and call ups and also have such a small number of players on the books.
