It wasn’t a surprise to the spectators either. They could have stayed at home. People should look after themselves and not just presume someone else will rescue them if they get into trouble. Why should it be the cricket clubs fault? I think they’ve done everything they possibly could to mitigate the situation short of cancellation.

When you are hosting a sporting event, you have an obligation to public safety. There should not be 30+ minutes wait for access to water, whichever way you want to spin it.
If you can't give people easy access to water in this weather, then the event should be pulled. To say that 'they could have stayed at home' after folk have paid for tickets is a load of shite imo.

The bars should be giving a price t of water out with every pint of alcohol sold.
Whilst I agree, it’s not quite that simple. They will have water capability for Durham in a normal July, they can’t just magic up fountains or cooling capacity

The club staff have been issuing free water as well as the water fountain things. Not sure what else the club can do. People need to take some responsibility themselves

Bottled/canned/water bowsers are easy enough to source. The weather wasn't a surprise that popped up this morning, we've known for well over a week that today was going to be this hot.
They may not have been to do any more than they have, all I'm saying is that if you're running a public event in this weather and you can't get access to water in less than half an hour then it shouldn't be going ahead.
Waiting 30 minutes for water is inconvenient and unpleasant but unlikely to be life threatening. I’m sure that the Club will review today’s events and consider whether they should have done more, but this is an extreme unprecedented situation and I don’t suppose that they dreamt of it happening at the stadium design stage.

My mates are there in an upper stand and spent last hour of SA innings under the stand. Said it was unpleasant to sit in. Also lot of people passing out through the day.

Have these people not bothered bringing any liquids themselves? Christ last week it was 27 degrees at the ground I took 3 litres of juice/water with me. Sounds like people are just turning up with nowt.
