Eng Vs SA at Durham

We are going to have literally the hottest temperatures ever recorded in England.

We aren't in Australia, India or anywhere else. It's daft to compare their summer to ours: their infrastructure is designed for heat, but ours isn't. At 35°C in Chester-le-Street, there will be people who can't make it because the train lines aren't operating and the roads may have a knock-on effect. LNER have already announced that there are no trains from London to York or Leeds on Tuesday. There will also be people who are unable to safely spend all day in the sun, even with water, suncream and a hat. I'm thinking particularly with cricket having an older-than-average crowd.

As for going on holiday in warmer climates: I deliberately travel in the cooler months to avoid the extreme temperatures.

Don’t worry, if you’re not up to it don’t go. I’ve worked for prolonged periods in warmer climes until I was 70 and if you are sensible not a problem. I would be out at warmest time of day with no shade.

Network Rail - Important Information!

Due to the red weather warning we must close the East Coast Main Line for all locations between London King’s Cross and York and Leeds on Tuesday afternoon.

We are warning you to not travel on Tuesday:

Is there a chance it could be called off?
The major part of the crowd will be from the NE, I am driving up from York. That’s assuming the A19 hasn’t melted. I would be surprised if it is called off.
Shower forecast in morning and cloudy day according to my weather app.

Still 35 degrees forecast 😱

Most of the players will have played in similar heat before, so any cancellation would only be for spectators coming from further afield, which would be a bit silly really.
Agreed. The game will go on, as we’ve seen with covid. be typical Durham missing out on a money spinner, if there is a problem letting a crowd in
