Women’s Euros 2022

I said on another thread I've been supporting the Arsenal Women's team for over 20 years now. It's amazing to see the progress in the game since then. Arsenal led the way in this country in the women's game for so long and it's great to see there's now more competition.

Our women's team is a big part of the club. Alex Scott got a massive ovation from a full Emirates when she retired from the game. Our goal of the month competition features goals from both the men and women's team and in the last few months fans relegated Bukayo Saka's goal to 3rd place behind that of Beth Mead and Tobin Heath. Our women's team has over 400k followers on Twitter and this might surprise a few that it's not full of trolls.

As a Scot I'm very proud that one of our players is England captain (love Leah, she's Arsenal through and through - she was the mascot in one of our Champions League games the year we won it).

I genuinely hope England go on to win the Euros as our Arsenal lasses are class.

Mate. I specifically said in the post I wasn't speaking about justthis tournament.

It should be covered. Just not as prominently as it is. the obsession is putting it on a par with the men's game.

That's a bit of an embarrassing standpoint to be fair.

If you want it to be better supported, you need to give it a push at the time it's at its most prominent - giggady.

Laugh all you want. Ryhope under 16s would beat England woman’s team.

That's a retarded argument, and you know it is.
That's like saying Floyd Mayweather would beat Nicola Adams.
No, not at all, but for how shit it is, it is very prevalent.

I think Love Island is utter shit and yet scores of morons watch that.
At least the Women's Euros is inspiring future generations of lasses to take up football.

Nicola Adam’s is not prime time, nor is woman’s football.

Nicola Adam’s would never be headline on BBC sport, nor should woman’s football be.

It is forced. As the OP pointed out.

This might not go down too well but why are the BBC pushing this sport down our throats on their main channel?
Unbelievable the coverage for this minority sport.
46,000 at the opening match. A sell out a Wembley for the Final and many more close to capacity. They show just about every other sport so why not women`s football. Plenty of people are engaged in it and the interest among girls is at an all time high. Why stop that just because you think football is a blokes game and only they can play or enjoy it.

You going to stamp your foot to go along with this hissy fit?

I reckon our U23s would beat England. Our U19s might but to say an U16s schoolboy team would beat England is ridiculous.

Real Madrid B would beat us. Maybe Sky should stop showing our matches. Ramming it down our throats.

Im assuming the posters decrying woman’s football are young lads without kids that have nivver given a thought to possibly fathering daughters in the future and wanting them to be able to follow their dreams. If they’re old lads with daughters, grand daughters, nieces etc then the worlds in a bigger mess than I thought.
Exactly this. Imagining wanting to hinder opportunityies for our young lasses going forward? Absolute saddos.

Don't watch it then.

And how is it an insult to League One and Two players and supporters? The WSL is the highest level of the women's game. One website puts the their fixtures above lower league fixtures. It's probably because the BBC have the rights to the WSL.

Using your logic, the SPFL results and fixture should be read out before League One and Two. After all it's an insult to Scottish football players and supporters.
I don't watch it. And only in Scotland.

When they can play to alevel worth watching it may then be worthy of promotion.

When I was a kid in the 70's I was so obsessed with football I would have watched any game any where any time
I was lucky enough that the first major tournament I saw was the 1974 world cup which will stay with me for the rest of my life
Whatever anyone says, Women's football will grow because of this tournament being televised and I don't see that as a bad thing
