I hate the Mags as much as anyone but it's ridiculous to suggest they don't have much financial power, they spent more than any other club in the first window since the ownership change. They will spend a further 100M+ this summer no doubt about it.

They already have offers on the table of 30M for a striker and a 40M centre half.

Guimaraes is a top player, they haven't had a central midfielder like him for quite some time. They were in a position in January whereby some players were hesitant due to the possibility of relegation.

It’s not ridiculous at all.

If you haven’t got a lot of money, and you spend a lot in January, it follows that you won’t be able to spend much in the summer, which is what we’re seeing now.

The new owners have made one massive statement of intent since taking over, and unfortunately for the mags, it isn’t the intention they have in mind at all: they gave 30 year old injury prone Paul Dummett a new contract. Why the fuck would they do that?

On a different note, Staveley has borrowed money from Mike Ashley, and apparently accepted very restrictive conditions to secure the loan, terms which Ashley now claims she has broken.

There’s only one possible reason for each of the above actions: she simply hasn’t got access to very much money.

Instead of Darlow or Dubravka it'll be Pope or Dubravka. Pope is better than Woodman or Darlow
Competition for the starting place is now stronger. Definitely an upgrade.
Pope is decent, but no better than Dubravka, either way, only one can play at a time. So you’ve basically blown £10,000,000 plus wages, signing on fee and agents fees to have a decent backup up keeper, when other areas of the team need strengthening. Add that to the Chris Wood costs and FFP will be slowly starting to catch up and bite you in the backside.

AS doesn’t have the wealth to match the Saudis when it comes to injecting next equity into the club. She admitted that she will likely be diluted sooner or later but for now she serves a purpose and they issued one share for 40m that the Saudis bought to avoid AS and JR having to to put in proportionally. You are also right that she had to borrow to put her stake up in the first place. No doubt the Saudis will buy both her and JR out eventually.

But you also asked it AS can get her hands on the Saudi money - they put 30ish m in to begin with for working capital, then 90m or so in January and then the 40m special share. That’s not bad for the first few months but chicken feed for ghe richest clerb in the world.

Is he a big improvement on what they had? Dubravka is very good keeper.
He's an improvement. The GK position is stronger today with Pope in and Woodman out. Pope for me will be No.1 and Dubravka No.2. Whoever does get the nod the back up is stronger.

Am I the only one suprised at the lack of big names Newcastle have signed despite having shit loads of money . Don't get me wrong Pope is a good keeper but he's hardly a stellar name ..I would argue only guimares was top quality

No way will they finish top 6 this season ...still think your Leicester city and West ham's will finish above them..
Hate agreeing with a mackem but I think you’re right on this. I wasn’t expecting Mbappe et al, but I wasn’t expecting Matt Targett either. Probably somewhere in the middle if I’m being honest. We obviously have been trying for Botman and the skinny French lad for big chunks of money so they are willing to spend. Looking at it now that everything has settled down it’s definitely a project, rather than a Man City type scenario. FFP has definitely hindered things on that score, and also the big names wanting European football doesn’t help but I still have total confidence that we’ll be pushing for top four in 4-5 years.

Can't believe they're pretending Pope is an upgrade on what they have / had. 30 year old. Less than 10 England caps less than 150 premier league games and a relegation most recently under his belt.

It's good business in the fiscal sense but not the footballing sense. It's like they found Ashley's transfer list
Haway man.

I hate the black and white bastards as much as anyone but there’s no getting away from the fact that Pope is a good signing for the scum, he’s definitely an upgrade on their current keepers.

f***ing clueless. If they are successful then playing Burnley at home etc. will have empty seats as they focus on the bigger games. If they are unsuccessful they will be back to giving tickets away.
The expansion won't happen and it never will. They would struggle to fill 60k on a regular basis, never mind 80-90k!
At best, SJP will receive a few minor renovations such as a lick of paint here and there.

This sort of explains it quite well tbf

Absolutely no potential to get anywhere near their money back, I’ll give them trippier, the rest are no better than they already had, lower premier league players. I’d have dubravka in goal over pope n all
Burn and Targett both better than what we had.
Pope... no idea. Dubravka id decent. Pope looks about the same.

We don't need a bigger stadium. The one we have needs a refurb badly. 90K is just madness. Not sure who is dafter, the author or the editor for publishing it.
Build temporary stands to house the season ticket holders and a reduced away allocation... That is a great idea. Mark out a pitch and hoy up some temporary seating for 40k on Town Moor. No bother at all. 😂

Dubravka's not much worse than Pope, but seems to be a bit injury prone. Maybe a Championship side might nab him for a song.

You cannot spend hundreds and hundreds of millions in one go anymore.

They will however get sponsorships etc to give them as much wiggle room as possible and continue to spend as much as any club in football.

Lets revisit at the end of the window and see how much they have spent again.
