Can Diana Ross bat and or bowl? Is she Supremely confident?
She can mime, if that helps.
..
by the way @Silly Point there was a spinner called Shutt, with a very unique run up to bowling for yorkshire tonight. He seemed to stamp on his second step towards the wicket. Bowled well but took a few big hits towards the end if his spell
Aye, observing his arm movements during the process of delivery was like watching Ian Curtis on Top of the Pops.
Thanks for the clarification.
Your tongue in cheek comment about "blaming Franklin for the balls going soft and flat pitches" has an element of truth in it. For years the sameness of Durham's seam attack has been seen to be ineffective when pitches flattened out as they do in dry weather.Clearly there was a need to acquire a quality spin opttion, probably as an overseas, and also appoint a quality spin consultant to help develop youngsters in the art. Franklin has addressed neither.
It’s largely been a problem since our inception into First Class cricket though. Both the bowling of spin and the batting against spin. Once again last night that came to the fore - yes, Franklin hasn’t addressed that, but he’s not the only one to have come (and hopefully gone, soon) without having sorted it out. Aside from the glory years with Blackwell in the side it’s always been a gap that needed plugging and let’s be honest, who on here over the winter would’ve expected the flat pitches we’ve had AND who was actually calling for Durham to look for an overseas spinner? Are any decent ones even available?
As for crediting Lewis for coaching a championship winning team, I always credited that to Colly. Do you seriously think that Colly would have been dictated to by Lewis on issues of team selection and tactics?
I would credit Geoff Cook with that one actually, given it was he who actually built the side - there was a touch of flippancy about what I said, but there again, with everything that happened that year off the field it would’ve been very easy for the lads to lose focus and to allow the opportunity to pass. As we all know, that didn’t happen. Whether it was Lewis or Colly or the wider group of players will probably never truly come out, but Lewis was undoubtedly a part of the process.
I know it’s not a Lewis thread, but I always felt he got a rough deal given that he was the one who, despite a good run of years where we were title challengers, then, through no fault of his own, had to deal with the demotion and subsequent player exodus that followed. It probably was the right time to go in the end of course, but as I’ve alluded to, WHED’s riot act is a very tedious and vicious show of hatred when it does come. Once he’s decided enough is enough he’ll stop at nothing (certainly not the truth) to completely blackball someone. As we’re seeing now, just as we saw then with Lewis.
Yes, Geoff had his heart attack mid July and Lewis was acting coach for the remainder of the season.
20th June.
